I am all set up to load for 9x18. I plan on using cast bullets from Missouri bullet Co. Does anyone have anyone have any experience in shooting cast bullets through the CZ 82 ( polygonal rifling) ? I have read all sorts of post going both ways on this issue? I want to know if you have actually ran cast bullets through a cz 82 ( or other polygonal rifled gun).

Thanks

Well since the silence is deafening. I will let y'all know how it turns out, if I survive :D

No experiance with the CZ82.

But, I have been shooting cast lead (Very hard pure Linotype) bullets in my Glock 23 for going on 15 years without any problems.

I think it will all depend on the hardness of the bullets.

Just keep an eye on the barrel for severe leading, and if you see it, stop & clean it.

Thanks for the input. That is my plan, i do not foresee a problem, I am guessing the the M.B.C. bullets will be 18 brinell as there 380 is listed at this hardness; not quite as hard as Linotype but almost.

not a CZ82 but a polygonal nonetheless - HK45

accuracy was superior to FMJ/plated 230 grain bullets - which surprised me.

you need to watch the leading until you know what it likes, I ended up a .452 bullet and a lighter load than the FMJ/plated rounds and leading is low.

I've got a CZ 82, in which I have shot cast bullets that I cast from the LEE 365-95-1R mould, I believe it is. It's a lead round nose bullet. I'm woefully short on 9x18 brass, so I've only shot about 50 rounds of cast through it. There was no leading. I had no sizing die for that size, so I shot them as cast. I used W231 for the powder, between 3.4 and 3.6 grains. It functioned flawlessly.

Within the next few weeks, I plan on casting a couple hundred bullets for it and shooting them up asap.

Hope that helps.

Please give us a range report.

I went to the range yesterday. I ran about 75 Missouri Bullet Co. 93 grain cast LRN through my CZ 82. All went really well. I could see some fouling in the bore, but very light, it may have been lube and not lead. I was using 4.9-5.5 grains of Ramshot Trueblue. with a cci small pistol primer, coal = .975. As for brass I am using trimmed 9 mm luger brass trimmed to 18 mm ( i sized and flare my cases before trimming, then size and flare before loading). I may look into a new recoil spring because my cases were being flung a long way. Sorry, no muzzle vel. because I have no chronograph

I replaced my recoil spring with a new 18 pound spring from Wolf springs. This makes a world if difference in the feel of the gun, recoil seem lighter and more manageable, brass still flies a long way but not quiet as far

If the brass is sprouting wings, you could probably reduce your load, especially now with the new spring. This would keep your brass close-by and cut the leading even more.

Berry's is making plated makarov's again. Plated bullets are a nice compromise. Also if you are short of makarov brass you can trim down 9mm luger and make your own 9x18. Check youtube for a video on exactly how to make the conversion.

I just shot about 50 rounds of cast Lee bullets through my CZ82 and my Makarov. They worked fine, but I sure hate trying to find the brass.

The nominal weight of the mold is 95 grains but the bullets actually weigh 106 grains. I think I may have accidentally grabbed some soft lead, but doubt it would make that much difference; maybe poor QC at Lee?

Either way, I just cleaned both guns, and there was no leading at all in the CZ82, but the EG Makarov had a little (makes me think my lead is too soft).
