Anyone use any of these contraptions that sweep up pistol brass or build some type of screen thing to catch it? My clubs pistol part can get a little muddy and im tired of having to crawl down in the creek and wash my hands when im done picking up brass. I was thinking of building a contraption out of 2x4 with some screen door screen or small hole netting to catch the brass but a little worried the brass might melt the screening.

Thanks for any insight.

I saw a contraption that looked as if it came from an adult book store for S&M advocates. There was a black frame work that fit around the wrist of the shooting hand, and a black lacey veil like pouch that caught some of the ejected brass.

My guns politely deposit my empties into the palm of my hand:

I do prefer a revolver and shoot them very well but times changed where now shooters don't go for accuracy they go for 17rds in 3 seconds. Nice piece by the way.

When I lived out West, the pistol range had covered rectangular tables to use. I sat on a chair and rigged a small towel with PVC and a 2x4 (broke down easily for storage and transport) that I set up to my right. This was fantastic, especially when shooting 32ACP when can be a bugger to spot when mixed with other brass. All of the brass hit the towel and slid right on down. Another guy I once knew used a full size clear shower curtain rigged up similarly for rifle shooting, especially his AR. Being clear, everyone could see him and he could see everyone else so going cold wasn't an issue.

I bought this in 2016 and it works great. Especially for my 10mm brass which is frequently found in the next county normally.
That's kind of what I was thinking about building, Thanks!. I tried the tarp on the ground but being muddy the tarp would make more of a mess out of me than picking up the brass lol.

So was this towel and shower curtain vertical or kind of like a hammock? I'm trying to find a way to keep it off the ground cause its always muddy.

I bought a push mower on clearance that was rigged up with a rear bagger. I don't use that feature, but the big black Craftsman bag has rigid framework that props it up off of the table and when positioned on the table next to me it just gobbles up the brass. It works well for everything I shoot provided I stay close to it. Since I started taking it, I have seen other shooters using similar homemade contraptions. The important part of that rig is a pair of wooden blocks, one to raise the end a bit and the other to put some weight in it and keep it from blowing around. I have forgot the blocks before and used ammo containers for the same purpose, but I like using the blocks better so that there's only 1 type of ammo on the table at a time.

Since I was sitting, mine was all of ~18" tall on the table right next to me, so vertical. The shower curtain guy was vertical, so about ??5'?? or so tall. Basically, he had something like one of those chrome moveable clothes racks on wheels that he could take down and the shower curtain hung down with a little bit on the ground where all the brass accumulated. Lightweight, it worked great for him

I've seen brass-catching rigs made from 1/2 in PVC pipe and netting. Sort of like an oversized butterfly net set on a pvc frame stand.
A lot lighter than 2x4s

For a portable set up, the brass catcher posted by PCFlorida looks like it has promise.

Since I can shoot at home, on my to-do list is a full size brass catcher that I can stand in. I have some mesh material for the walls of the brass catcher and will build the frame out of EMT conduit. Unfortunately, not really portable for those going to a club or public range.

I use a 14X20 painters cloth on the ground next to me. Works for all my pistols and levers. At the end of the session I just pick up the corners and all the brass rolls to the middle where it is easily scooped up.

I built one like that, from a pool skimmer net. I attached it to a bar which I can clamp to the shooting shelf at the range I frequent most often.

Years ago when I did some competitive bullseye shooting I used one of their hand models during practice. Worked great and the velcro hand band did not alter my grip enough to notice. Now that I work at a range I have all the brass I will ever need.

Build a stand-up frame about 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Attach a blanket to the top, and let it hang loose. It will intercept all your brass and dump it at the bottom of the frame. If you like, you can double the last foot or so of the blanket and make a bag for the cases to fall into.

I'm liking this idea! If I build it I will probably donate it to my club so I don't have to lug it around.
