Just sharing a observation I noticed, when using a star universal 45acp, ch auto champion 38 split, and a dillon 450 what ever caliber i have nothing but issues priming. In switching over to Winchester and federal primers I eliminated the problem. I never have had a issue with hand operated tools with any brand of primers, so why is this giving the fits in progressive machines?

Found the same issue on my Star Universal too. But only with CCI large pistol primers. CCI small pistol primers workrd fine. Always thought it odd but never gave it another thought once i switched over to using Winchester primers.

CCI primers are generically known to have the hardest cups in the market. If you have tight pockets... primer pockets that is... they can give you fits. I also encounter some primer feed issues with CCI SP primers on my Hornady press... but I think that is the anvil catching the bottom of the tube, not necessarily the hardness of the cup.

I use them without any problems for some of my loads.
What are the “issues” you are having? On some of my progressives I can tell the difference in different brands of cases, when seating a primer, no matter the brand.

As stated CCI primers are harder than others, I don't think it is as much any primer feeder than primer holes in brass, not being as soft those CCI primers do not easily form into some out of round pockets.

FWIW, I use CCI primer strips exclusively on my RCBS Pro 2000 for 9mm and 45 ACP. The only problems I've encountered were of my own making, with one exception. In my brief experience with new RWS 45 ACP cases, they apparently have tight primer pockets. The CCI LP primers do fit, but it takes a little extras effort on the press handle and sometimes calls for the hand primer to finish the job.

I currently use CCI, Win, and Fed primers, both large and small pistol, on my Dillon 550. The only ones that give me grief on occasion are Federal Small pistol and 38 special.
