Am I right? It appears you have to have at least a 4-inch barrel for a concealed carry while hunting in these two states.

My question is... Can an Oklahoma boy traveling in your state still have a SP101 - 2.25" barrel as a carry gun if I'm not hunting and just spending time in those great states?

I was checking out states that border mine on:

Colorado

What about CCW while hunting
Colorado also requires a 4-inch barrel on personal-defense handguns, and concealed carry is not permitted while hunting.

AND

Arkansas

State Law requires all personal-defense handguns to be centerfires and have at least a 4-inch barrel. Bowhunters in Arkansas may not carry personal-defense handguns while turkey hunting.

Yes. I don't think that carryconcealed is accurate. Colorado has no restrictions on handgun barrel length of any type, even while hunting. See packing.org.

Wrong on both counts, I believe. As stated by jlbraun, Colorado law places no restriction on barrel length for CCW.

Also, the law specifically states that a concealed permit is not required while hunting; however there seem to be various interpretations of that law. DOW wants you to have a permit if the gun is concealed, although you might be excused if the gun meets the requirement for what you are legally hunting (min barrel length and min ft/lbs are both specified for handgun hunting).

Regardless of the interpretation, with a valid CHL you certainly can carry concealed while hunting. I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I suppose there could be an exception for bow hunting. But I doubt it.

Your 2.25" SP101 will be just fine for concealed carry as long as your permit is valid (OK resident carrying on an OK permit).

My brother lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has a CCW and carries a Colt's Detective Special, 2" .38 Spec.

I asked the Colorado D.O.W. about this last year. The customer service guy that I talked to on the phone had no idea about legal concealed carry while hunting, so he checked into it, and called me back. Long story short, concealed carry, done legally and properly licensed, is covered by Colorado Statute. Minimum barrel length, muzzle energy, etc., are hunting regulations. State Law trumps these regulations, and you are allowed to carry concealed, if so licensed, while hunting. The only issue with this is, you cannot use the concealed handgun to hunt game with, if it does not meet D.O.W. requirements to do so.

My AR CHL states that I may carry "Any Legal Handgun"

I'm not up on the hunting stuff though, sorry.

You need a centerfire handgun with a barrel length of 4" or greater for hunting deer in Arkansas. The game & fish reg says you can't carry a modern gun with you during the muzzleloading season, so you'll just have to carry a cap and ball revolver if you're hunting with a muzzleloader. :D
