2011 is coming in about two years. Do you think Colt or any other manufacturers will release a Centennial 1911? Who will make the best one? What new features might it have?

Discuss.

Under the current political regime, planning a gun purchase two years out may be a little overly optimistic.

I think it's a guarantee that some of the 1911 makers will offer commemorative models, but speaking only for myself, I'd only be interested in those (if) offered by either Colt or Springfield (preferably Colt).

I don't think any near-future gun bans will yet includ the 1911 because of it's maximum capacity of 7 or 8 rounds. It would take a full pistol ban to do that, so I'd be willing to bet that there will be some commemorative 1911's available.

But then that begs the question, "why?". If most of the makers offer a commemorative, then there will be tons of them out there so I wouldn't perceive any extra value as a collector piece.
It'll be kind of like the "collectable" stuff offered in the magazines where things are offered for the purpose of being collectable, and those are usually the things that never are.

I love my three 1911 Colt's, though, and if I had a chance to pick up another (preferably stainless) Commander that simply said "1911 to 2011", I'd probably grab one.
Now that I think of it, maybe I should make my own. I could just take one of my own to an engraver and let him have at it with any kind of commemorative markings I wanted. Then I really would have a "collectable" because it would most certainly be one of a kind. ;)

or a total semi-auto ban. perhaps not altogether likely, but not entirely outside the realm of possibility either.

I had a set of WW1 and WW2 Colt 1911 commemoratives. Very pretty on the wall, but, when I sold them, I got the equivalent of bank interest (perhaps a little less)

There will most certainly be a flush of Centennial Editions with various levels of engravings on them. Probably no innovations since it will be celebrating a 100 year-old design.

Probably not much investment value.
