Issuing of CCW permits in CA is done by the local county sheriff. The current sheriff, Bill Gore, will not issue permits for any reason. However, the opposing candidates are PRO-CCW. Jay La Suer more so than Jim Duffy. I like La Suer better than Duffy, he is on record as being pro-ccw. Duffy is pro-ccw too but isn't as outspoken in his support as La Suer. Gore is leading in the polls with about 25%, Duffy and La Suer are tied with about 15% each. Anyone garnering 50% of the vote wins outright. Otherwise, a runoff will be held later on with the two top candidates. To everyone in San Diego County voting in the primary tomorrow don't vote for Gore!

Mods feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place. I just wanted this to get as much exposure as possible.

So that would be San Diego County right?

hmmmmm.. I wonder if I could get my 92 yr old grandma to vote for one of the two. I dont know exaclty how she feels about CCW but she is a pro indivigual rights type person. hmmmmm

Yup, San Diego County. La Suer is a conservative and Duffy is a bit more moderate but both are pro-ccw. Whichever your grandma feels is more appropriate would be just fine. :)

The third and favored Candidate Gore is against CCW in most circumstances.

La Suer is outspoken enough on CCW to even include it in his key campaigning points.

Duffy does not include it in his campaigning points, but says he is in favor of it when questioned.

Sheriffs tend to be in power for a long time.

Certainly would be nice to see another county in Southern California not hostile to CCW, especially a well populated one like San Diego.

Not good enough.

I live in CA. The sad part about the sheriff race in SD county, I believe, is any speak of being pro CCW will likely cause the candidate to lose more support than he gains. They're too afraid that if some CCW'er were to go biserk, he'd be blamed. It's politics.

I'm not sure how to get a sheriff elected that is CCW friendly, but I do know making it a campaign promise would be mostly disasterous. In my county and a neighboring county, CCW's are attainable, but the sheriff's in place have been here a long time and usually don't face much of a threat come election time. If an incident were to happen, they could point at their 20 year records and deflect the blame.

I live in a rather rural, unpopulated county, in fact it's Lake County, 100 mi. North of SF on the map above.

If you polled 100 people on the street, 90 of them would look at you crazy if asked if law abiding citizens should be allowed to walk around with a concealed gun to protect themselves. It's been this way for so long people are used to it here and most of them would be shocked to learn in most other states you can do, just that. I've told a few friends about Arizona's new law - these are just normal people (trust me) - they're shocked. Business just isn't done that way here. Guns are for hunting or to be left in a nightstand in the bedroom - that's just the mentality.

Chance defeated.

Gore won with over 50% of the vote. He won't even have to face either of the others in a runoff.

No CCW for average people in San Diego County for years to come.

Bill Gore 184134 56.83%
Jay La Suer 72542 22.39%
Jim Duffy 67322 20.78%
