Changes afoot at Ruger

And in the case of the .380 pistol, playing dirty at that!

Is there anything actually patented in the Kel-tec? If not, why couldn't Ruger legally make a clone?

Copy or close copy of something else is not new.

Every DA "Wondernine" that came out in the 1980s used the Walther DA trigger design.

Every striker fired polymer frame semi-auto has heritage back to Glock in the 1980s.

There are a lot of AR and AK clones.

How about 1911 clones?

1903 Springfield was made after paying a royalty to Mauser.

Patents expire and licensing agreements get made.

If you want to condemn anything that's similar or a copy there wouldn't be many guns you'd have.

I am happy that Ruger has come back around. I hope that these products do make it.

This is sort of related - I just got my Ruger accessories catalog in the mail a few days ago and noticed that on most of their merchandise (and on their website) they have eliminated the "S" for Sturm on their medallion logo. Sturm is still on the grip panels and magazines of my recent Mark III, but I wonder if it will be that way for long. Changes indeed.

The 1994 AWB is probably responsible for more semi-auto rifles being sold than any marketing plan in history

In a lot of ways, it was the best thing to ever happen to RKBA.

I read this twice -
The first time I thought what a load of :cuss:

Second time I agreed that it can be a good thing (perhaps not the best) -
1 - HUGE change in the makeup of Congress the following year
2 - Cost Al Gore the white house (Bill Clinton said so)
3 - It ended
4 - brought many people out of the woodwork to fight for RKBA
5 - I am sure there are more

I was one of those people who refused to buy Ruger firearms, new or used, because of Bill Sr's politics.

The LCP and Mini-14 mags have changed that. Once I see them for sale, I'll bury my hatred for Ruger (logical or not). In fact, the LCP looks to be a VERY compelling alternative to the P3AT. I might have to get one!

Ruger just bought back $20 million of it's privately owned stock, which got "clobbered" in November. 3rd quarter earnings were down 15% from previous year. They also intend to reduce their workforce by 150 with buyouts to ultimately save $3 million anually.

I don't think they'd dare get into a lawsuit right now.

Because of my impressions which have been shaped by other's opinions and experiences, and because of my experiences with Ruger firearms, I'm a lot more interested in the new Ruger than the imitatee.

I'm certainly glad that I purchased Ruger (RGR) stock when it was at a historic low. I'm hopeful and pleased with current management's new direction. I'm patient enough to hang on for a few years to see if the corporate resurrection can be accomplished.

I sure would like to see reasonably priced clones of my 20-round LE magazine made available!

I think I'll aim to pick some up when it goes down next. Wouldn't think that current changes could effect the stock price until next year at the earliest, and the inventory glut that ALL merchandisers in the US are suffering leads me to expect they should have another big drop left in them.

Yes, the 1994 AWB was great for sales, getting congress's attention, awakening RKBA in more folks, etc etc. But I still wish it never happened, and I hope nothing like it happens again.

Remember when those yahoo antigun morons said they were hoping for another 'columbine type shooting' because that would reinvigorate their movement and eventually save more lives?

I don't operate on the premise of hope something bad happens so we can learn the hard way. I hope nothing bad ever happens even if that means the slog is slower and the gains less dramatic. If our cause is true, we will get there eventually.

Protolith:
"Ruger should modify the design of the Mini 14 to accept AR mags.

A product from Ruger that uses the same ammo and mags as the AR platform, but is based on the M1 Garand/ M14/ M1 carbine style action might find a place in the US arsenal. It might also be popular with law enforcement as a more affordable issue weapon available with wood that doesn't make the sheep cry like the sight of black plastic."

That's the smartest thing I've ever heard!

after 200 rds through my new SR9 (just got it on sat) i couldnt be happier... i dare say that it feels more durable than a glock... and if the LCP is as well made as the SR9, then kel-tec wont stand a chance...
