Changes to reciprocity

there are a few differences that make this even worse than that.
#1 driving without a license is not a felony
#2 the right the keep and bear arms is protected by the constitution, driving a car is not.
#3 the states voluntarily made driving licenses reciprocal, where as they fight us on Cary permits :cuss:
#4 cars kill and injured way way more people than guns each year :fire:

Question: what’s an automatic knife? o_O
A “switchblade” is a common term for an auto-opening knife. Uses spring or other device to open the blade with the press of a button or lever.

Stay safe.

Illinois recognizes no other state's CCW permit

Yep. It's a sad fact that a non-resident (besides police officer, fed agent, etc.) has no legal right to use a firearm for self defense if out in the public in ILL-inois. People should avoid this state like the plague. I'm a lifelong resident but I've recently retired and I'm in the middle of moving to a free state. I have a concealed carry card and will remain a resident of this state until after the very last trip out of here so i can carry. In the meantime, the state i will move to does honor the Florida CC.

You push a button, it opens, one-handed. A thing of beauty. Some call them switch blades but that's actually a misnomer.

I began collecting them when I lived in Italy in the 80s and my wife and I lived there in the 90s and 2000s. The irony is that they are now legal in SC and a lot of other Southern states ... but no longer in Italy.

I pay no attention to laws in different states, when I travel I am carrying regardless of the laws. I lived in California for years when you could not get a permit, I still carried daily. I would rather risk getting caught carrying verses not carrying and needing my firearm.

South Carolina has never been as pro-gun as might have been expected.
I find them to be more pro-gun than NC, which is my home state, in the more recent years. I travel frequently to SC, as my in-laws are there, and my BIL's are big proponents of personal carry. They kid that if SCHP stops you and you aren't carrying, they give you directions to the nearest gun store. :D

Yep, there is a contingent in NC politics that wants NC to be the Massachusetts of the South (looking at the Triangle area here) and another contingent of “conservative” LE interests that think they are the only ones in the room professional enough to handle firearms, drive with dark tinted windows, or what have you. Prior to carry reform, the Brady Campaign ranked NC as being the 13th strictest state in the nation with regard to gun laws. Thankfully a lot of that crap has been pushed back, but you still have to pay a ton of money and lost work time to get or renew a CHL, we still have the Jim Crow “request a permission slip from your local sheriff to buy a handgun” law (which is subject to arbitrary/whimsical restrictions and can be denied if he says you’re not of “good moral character”), etc. We also used to have pretty wacky rules against carrying guns in the woods (it was all hyper-hunting-centric) and some of those still exist as well.

So, yeah. I like eastern NC (I grew up here) but the state government is a weird mix of southern libertarian, good-ole-boy authoritarian, and academic liberal.

I'm afraid Asheville has gone well past the normal left meter in Western NC.

We sold our summer place in Tryon, on Melrose Mountain, not wanting to deal with the restrictive gun laws and high property taxes up there anylonger.

SC has, by far much better gun laws than NC ... and we're getting better all the time. I lol'd at the SCHP joke above but it's somewhat true. I have jumpwings on the front bumper of my truck. I went through a check point one Sunday not long ago, one of those "looking for Sunday drunks on the backroads" kind of checkpoints .... and there were county and state LEOs there yucking it up having a good time. So I declare that I am packing when I hand one of the state troopers my proof of insurance, registration and license. He asks me what Regiment I served-in ... I tell him. He says he served in another regiment under so-and-so during such-and-such years ... then he asks me what I am packing. I tell him a P229 in 357 SIG ... he starts telling me that he wished the HP would issue those, asked me how I liked it ... I take it out of the glove box and clear it and hand it to him ... lol, you get the picture.

These guys are here are pretty well versed on concealed carry laws and peaceable journey. BTW, he never asked me for my permit ... I asked him why not? He said because ... he didn't care, peaceable journey. He said the only time they care is during a traffic stop and then it shows up on their nics thingy in the cruiser. They were all good guys.

Still, the ones that become legislators, especially the ones thwt worked-for or are still working-for SLED, (started by Melvin Purvis btw) .... they are not our friends when it comes-to voting for full Constitutional Open Carry.

Like I said though ... not having to worry about printing anymore ... big relief. Big big relief.

The reciprocity thing ... more states accept our licenses than we accept in return. That's a lucky break for us for the time being.

From what I was told when I got my Florida license, SC does not recognize any other state's license. They do not with Fl. that I do know.

Boy oh boy something is blowing-up in Florida right now .... (R) Chuck Brannan III threw some GOA petitions for Constitutional Carry and increased reciprocity in the trash ... right in front of them.

I don't think Brennan and his crew realize how strong the GOA has become. This will fire up the national base and get DeSantis DeSavage involved.

Florida lost a lot of its reciprocity deals with other states not long ago because they were basically handing out permits like candy, resident and non resident. This new thing is supposed to fix all of that but don't ask me how.

. How so? South Carolina has very lax requirements to obtain a concealed weapons permit, fairly widespread reciprocity, no waiting period on firearm purchases, no magazine capacity limits, no "assault weapons" ban, no safe storage requirements, no FOID requirements. I live here and feel like we are very gun friendly. What am I missing?
The core element of SC gun laws is a training requirement and unwillingness to cooperate with States that do not have the same.

If I did that, I wouldn't announce it on a public forum.

The only this I see here is a infringement on your 4th amendment rights. It is held just as high as my 1st and 2nd. Glad you had a pleasant encounter, I would have remained silent. Giving the police that kind of power limits freedom and is a slippery slope. (P229 in .357 sig are great btw)

We're neighbors ... we should shoot some time. Shoot me a PM if you're ever interested ... Shooter's Choice or PSA out on Fernandina either one.

I agree, our requirements have come a long ways over the years. We started fighting for our rights vigorously in 1988 and it's been gradually getting great imho.

Personally, having instructed for so long, I'm all in favor of the instruction/training requirement because I have had some people come-through that should not be carrying ... they are not mentally capable of doing-it responsibly.

Also, if if we had full-blown open carry ... I wouldn't do it. I would still carry concealed because I believe in the element of surprise and I prefer not to have to watch my 6 24/7/365 ... bad guys snatch firearms (from behind) from open carriers all the time. There are videos of it happening .... happens all the time.

Reciprocity-wise, we're going-to keep working on that but, as already stated, that has a lot to-do with other states. As long as we get peaceable journey I'm good.

You should always check with your state with respect to which states provide reciprocity for your CWP when travelling, and find out what the rules are in those states. It was about 10 years ago the State of Michigan provided reciprocity with every state in the Union that had Shall Issue laws. I believe Michigan may have been the first to do so.

what’s an automatic knife?
switchblade

Knife laws, especially switchblade laws on carry, are far more confusing than firearms laws. There isn't even the hint of reciprocity in knife carry laws. We have a whole section on it in NFW.

The guns, not the knife.
I am legally allowed to carry my automatic (knife) in Florida now?

I know I can carry a handgun when I'm down there but, as I understood it I am not allowed to carry my automatic knife.

Agreed and ... I need to visit that forum more often.

Incorrect. Switchblade have been treated as normal pocketknives for decades except for a brief period where the were confused with ballistic knives by an overzealous prosecutor that had to be smacked back into his lane.

Now I'm really confused because (unless I am reading the app incorrectly) the knife app I downloaded in your post on the knife forum (Knife Rights LegalBlade) ... it's saying I cannot carry my "switchblade" while visiting my daughter and grandkids in Florida ... although I do it anyways.

It's showing a red column all the way downnthe right side column except for your normal pocket folder and, crazy enough, I think it allows spiked knucks or something.

Reciprocity goes out the window when a state allows CC with out training.

When WV (former place of residence) allowed CC without a permit, several states would not honor WV’s CC in their state.

I guess I am a felon for 12 minutes when going thru MD on the way to PA:)

I am up for renewal next July (SW NC) the one good thing is you don't need a permit or BC if you hold a CWP.
