I was looking at the Browning HP to trade my SW9VE but it was too expensive. I wanted to stay in the 9mm range because of ammo costs while switching to a single action. I purchased the Charles Daly HP 9mm NIB. The reviews I have read are fairly positive. Put 100 rds down range today and it was satisfactory. The HP is not an import they are manufactured in Pa. Somebody tell me I did not make a mistake.....

Well, what does satisfactory mean?

Did it jam up?

Fail to feed, fire, extract? How many out of the 100 rounds, if so?

Is the trigger bad? Heavy? Gritty?

Is it innacurate?

If the answer to all those questions is "no," and you like your gun, then it's not a mistake. FWIW, most people recommend you put 200 rounds of your favorite carry or SD ammo to check function, so some might say you didn't put enough rounds downrange to thoroughly test your pistol.

John Browning did'nt make very many mistakes and you should'nt think you have.

As long as she goes bang everytime you pull the trigger, puts holes where you want to, and doesn't fall apart in your hands...you're okay ;)
In all seriousness, from what I've read, the CD HP's are nice renderings :D

The HP is not an import they are manufactured in Pa.

If I'm not mistaken, C.D.'s Hi-Powers are assembled in PA from parts imported from Hungary.

Still, I've always been of the opinion that it doesn't matter who made the pieces or where, so long as they made 'em well, and that they were put together properly. *shrug*

One way or the other, all the reports I've seen point to the Charles Daly H.P's being pretty good guns.

Probably gonna have to try one myself, sometime here soon.

Charles Daly has made their name importing guns and slapping their name on, if I am not mistaken.
In this case it is a Hungarian FEG with an ugly roll mark.

The markings on the FEG were none to pretty either. BUT I have an FEG PJK-9HP I bought at a pawn shop. It is my favorite gun EVER. It is very accurate and reliable and if the Charles Daly is the came gun I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it too. I've heard the CDs rear sight cut is identical to the Novaks. It thats the case its a steal. You have a good, accurate high power that can be fit with a set of Novak sights with out the smithing. Thats a good deal to me.

I have a SIG rear sight on mine. With a Heinie night sight dovetailed into the front. I have one a local shoot with it and I carry it in the winter. All for under $300.

I have not shot one, but the Daly HP I handled at the local gun shop seemed very well made for the $400 price.

I have a FEG 9HP clone that shoots very well. The Daly appears to me to be a quantum leap ahead in quality to the FEG. Very clean lines, nice finish (matte black, not the shiny black paint of the FEG but not a super gloss like some Brownings I've seen).

Overall, I think you made a great purchase. The Hi-Power design is great (unless you are replacing a hammer and fitting a sear in which case you will fight the hammer spring repeatedly trying to get the sear pin inserted!)

Thanks to all for your replies. When I used the word "satisfactory" I meant that I put 100 rds downrange with no FTE's or FTF's. The finish is quite well done one the HP I am not so sure that I like "CHARLES DALY", in large letter on the slide but that is the way them are manufactured.

This gun has the Express sights which present a "full circle" on the dot front site and the rear is a shallow V and vertical bar. So while I was able to hold a good pattern at 15 yds it will take some time to get accustomed to them.

PS To me the word "satisfactory" is not a negative word. I have not had this pistol long enough to fully evaluate it and I use this term so as not to mislead anyone. After I have 500 or so rds through her I will give a range report.

If the Daly is up to the quality of my FEG clone, you'll have a winner. A beautiful deep blueing jobs and a trigger that is just too crisp and light to be on a semiauto. My only complaint is it HATES WWB. It will fail to eject about every fourth round, but it gobbles stronger more potent rounds.:) :)

It is my understanding that the Charles Daly is a made from FEG parts. One nice feature is the sights and slide that have been dovetailed so if you want to change the sights you do not have to pay to have them machined.

I do not own Feg but I ahve heard of issues with high round count guns having lock up issues due to softer metals tha tre unsed for the barrels.

I think that for a sub $400 price they would be a good gun like the FEG but I still see FN belguim made Hipowers at shows in the $400 to $450 range and if it were me I would pay the extra $50.
