Check this thing out fellers...
Apparently they make them for pistols and rifles, a round counter, like a pedometer for your firearm. I heard about them and it sounded sort of awesome. I am working right now and didn't watch full video but check it out. What do you guys think about it? It seems that even if it failed it wouldn't cause functional problems with the firearm, but if it did work reliably it would be pretty cool.

Watch "HALO Pistol IRL! The RadeTec Glock Smart Slide" on YouTube

Yeah I think it's pretty cool. More likely to appeal to the up and comers, old dogs won't give a darn about it and I am not likely to jump on board but it's still pretty cool.

I do the same thing in my head every time I shoot, that training really does stick with you. Just did a HR218 re-qual and found myself doing it.

I couldn't watch the video for more than about 30 seconds, no buying intent but curious, is the entire slide changed, and did they mention a price?

"I know what you're thinking, punk. Did he fire VI rounds or only V. In all the excitement, I lost count myself. Now you've got to ask yourself... do I feel lucky? Well, do you?"

I don't know how I got started, but I've always counted my shots up to the XVI of my M-IX.

For rifles, I try to estimate total number of rounds by number of reloaded boxes for that caliber just on general principles, but somehow lost track of those numbers several years ago. But even with the thousands of rounds I've fired prairie rat hunting, my son recently determined that my favorite ancient varmint rifle in CCXXIII Remington ( not DLVI NATO ) is still superbly accurate with its I in XIV inch twist.

I think the product is awesome. Finally, the Glock guys will be able to count the number of rounds they shoot! Past the number of fingers on both hands, even...

That guy is way too excited about this astounding development in firearms technology. Way too much caffeine that day.
Maybe they will make it for other guns and the owners that can’t count. Most likely they made it for the Glock pistol first because there’s a bigger market. And there’s the fact that many Glock guys like to dress up their guns with extra stuff that is really not needed.
Don’t tell me that you have never watched videos by that guy. He’s like a lab rat on crack, and does stupid stuff.

I didn't watch the video, I thought it was a replacement for the rear plate of your glock. In that case it would be kind of cool. Not the kind of thing I'd spend money on, but very innovative nonetheless.

I'm pretty content with windows on my Pmags and the round holes in my glock mags. If I don't count exactly, I will estimate and sometimes drop my mag and check to see how off my estimates are, they are never off by more than one. Like ever. Weird how in the case of the glock, you can almost tell how many are in it by the weight in your hand. Maybe not down to the round but full, half empty, last few rounds.....

Of course the next question is, does it come in FDE? (yes, er, as a matter of fact, I do actually own a Glock or two, so I can poke fun at Glocksters, 'cause you know, they do get so excited about new modifications to these pistols)

And when will see one of these bad boys introduced for revolvers?

I'm leery of anything that's meant to make a real firearm emulate something from a video game. The company isn't marketing it like that but the YT guy did it for them. Too much room for that to go the wrong direction. And yes, I realize and won't deny I'm a boring stick in the mud.

I suspect that it works with the same tiny accelerometers on a chip that pedometers, smart phones and guidance systems use. It might have some value to me if it worked like a Hobbs meter to accurately reflect the total number of feeding cycles, but that would also be more information to fall into unknown hands.

A solution looking for a problem, but useless and harmless is still no worse than the gazillion of other useless and harmless accessories.
Well I suppose you could say the same for magazine windows and the like, I got along just fine without em and don't find them to be all that necessary. When I say it's "cool" I don't mean vital or necessary, just kind of cool.

Do any of us "need" this, man I hope not.

Don't worry, the US Government will probably pick up a few, and if it is tough enough, maybe make it a standard piece of equipment. After all, they have been looking for something like this since the early 1950s.

This isn't really high tech stuff. You can buy a pedometer for $10-$20 that will count your steps.

A smaller version that could be placed in an unobtrusive place on a firearm wouldn't hurt and the price should be able to stay well under $50. The design would have to be tweaked to not be as sensitive. If not it would count every step you take as a shot fired.

I wouldn't classify this as a "must have" accessory. But I've seen a lot more useless stuff that cost a lot more placed on firearms.

True. I have seen some pretty silly stuff out there, at least this type of thing or a variation of an onboard shot counter has some utility. It's amazing how much crap people load their gun up with. AR's for instance, it isn't uncommon to see a rifle with a bunch of cheap amazon.com gadgets and gear, people can spend as they wish but I always think they'd have been better off to ditch all the fluff and put the money into a decent optic or quality irons......
