Right.

While we're at it, let's ban sadness, anger, and bad things. Tomorrow when I wake up, I expect to be floating on a cloud in a sunny sky, with a rainbow over me and unicorns frolicking about upon the dew-kissed green grass below.

I will then be fed grapes by beautiful women with angel wings.

I thought you can't carry a loaded firearm in public in Illinois? Isn't Chicago basically the last place where it is illegal to own a handgun? Shouldn't those two laws keep everyone safe?

Chicago can keep its problems in Chicago....I like how things are quite a bit further south.
 
Focus on implementing solutions

I'm probably shouting into the wind here, but on well, here goes.

Most likely the people being spoken to at that church share something in common with the readers here; we both want less crime and death. Our disagreement is on how to address the problem. Sometimes I feel we get too caught up in the guns / no-guns absolutes to see that.

I wish I knew of groups working at the same level (church meetings, neighborhood groups, etc.) which offered additional solutions to the violence.
 
Are these people really this stupid, or is this all some kind of big game? I mean, really, has anyone ever tried sitting down with these people and explaining to them how illogical all of their goals are? Has anyone ever presented them with real statistics showing how few "military-style assault weapons" are actually used in crimes? If I were to do this, how would they react? Would they insist that I was lying?

The pawns in the Brady-type arena are stupid. The ones in charge are well aware that an armed populace is the last remaining roadblock to their socialist "utopia."

(keep in mind most? all? of those numbers are totals, rather than per-capita. On a per-capita basis, the true hideous magnitude of the one-sided hate crime wave is much more readily apparent)

Although their primary motivation was likely to blame the Bush Administration for whatever crime prevention funding cuts, the unintended side-effect is one or two of the local bliss ninnies might make a few unpleasant inferences as to the nature of things to come as the economy unravels further.

well if they built a fence round Chicago and had checkpoints that could to some extent control the flow of weapons into the city.
not going to do that give the police a budget to arrest bad people and get out of there way.

What about a moat? A few miles wide, a few miles deep, Chicago would be an island and all gun trafficking could easily be controlled.

The solution to thugs with guns doesn't lie in trying to control the guns. The solution is to control the thugs. In fact, the ideal solution would be to address the root causes of thuggery: Broken families, abadonment of traditional values, fear of using shame to limit anti-social behavoir, worship of vulgar and classless role-models, lack of respect for respectable individuals and behavior, fear of offending people by pointing out the obvious, etc, etc...

Jennifer Bishop is a well compensated fraud.

She is an employee of the Brady Bunch and has shown up at the Evanston, Wilmette and Winnetka council meetings recently claiming to be a "local resident" that lost her sister to a burglar with a gun. She told the same, identical story at all three meetings, I guess she never thought any reporters would note her multiple appearances and well-rehearsed identical performances.

In her twisted world the problem is you, a law abiding gun owner, not the guy that pulled the trigger on her sister.

At each of those meeting she told her sad story, neglecting to mention that guns were already banned where her sister was killed, and begged the villages to not "knuckle under to the NRA lawsuits and fight it all the way to the Supreme Court".

The three cash strapped towns all ignored her, so now she is showing up in Chicago and Oak Park that are taking the case up the legal food chain.

Daley will fight any change in his laws up to SCOTUS, then when he loses stall with onerous regulations to make it functionally impossible hoping that his new meat puppets in the White House and Congress will take care of him.

I'll never understand how RKBA believers could ever endure living in CA/NY/MD/IL/NJ/MA/etc... and the list continues to grow.
 
Simple solutions from simple minds.

Where are they calling for controls on bicycles? Swimming pools? Guns are not the only dangerous things in the world.

Most of what they want is already law. The rest is common sense.

Too bad they don't recognize common sense...

I promise to buy you an adult beverage (or cup of coffee, I'm easy) the next time I'm in the area. I couldn't have said it any better. Yet the educational system and the media would rule that thought process as abhorrent. Dang, I just realized that I'm officially a Curmudgeon :D

Because some of us are fighting a holding action, or even counter-attacking (figuratively speaking). I know a whole bunch of folks here in the PRK who are basically gun-toting social progressives/Libertarians. A bunch of them are schoolteachers, believe it or not. Also remember that CA, especially San Diego has a huge military presence. Lots of them are gun owners........
 
You guys are all crazy. She's right, and we know it. I have taken her lead and expanded it. With my foolproof plan in place, we will be free from everything bad in life. Check it out:

1) Regulate all violent crime.

2) Abolish world hunger.

3) Force all religions to love each other.

4) Implement an amazing educational system for all of Earth's denizens.

5) Make money grow on trees and donuts rain from the sky.

Now, don't question me on how we could possibly achieve these things, just trust me. If we just do these things, we will all live in peace and harmony. It's so common sense that my head hurts.

According to the FBI, there were 463 murders in the entire state of Illinois in 2007.

All rifles COMBINED accounted for four (4) of them. That's 0.86% of Illinois murders for ALL RIFLES PUT TOGETHER.

According to that website, Hands, feet, etc. accounted for more murders than rifles. Maybe having extremities should be illegal.
 
Dammit! I planned to exercise my 10/22 on a nice pistol grip Tapco stock when I got home.

It's dark and rather cool out there.... but I do have warm clothes and a BRIGHT flashlight.....

But you don't understand. Regular rifles, like the kind you hunt deer with, are okay. But military-style assault weapon have NO PURPOSE other than to kill people! That's what they're made to to. The pistol grip makes it easier to hold the rifle, so it's easier to kill people with. The bayonet lug means you can impale people with it, also, as frequently happens in inner-city crime.
 
No no no. The pistol grip allows the gun to be fired from the hip allowing you to kill more people. (that's right from the Brady website, you can't make that **** up).
Apparently people are more accurate when they fire from the hip than say, i don't know... aiming?

Edit: Here's the exact quote.

A pistol grip or thumbhole stock, which facilitates firing from the hip,
allowing the shooter to spray-fire the weapon. A pistol grip also helps
the shooter stabilize the firearm during rapid fire.
