I will try very hard to avoid the political aspect but I find it irresponsible to not discuss how quickly we as a society digress when a few decide to start dismantling the laws and order of this country.
In the past we have seen great civil unrest over legal decisions, natural disasters, power failures and the like.
Comming up in November we will face a real, potentially national SHTF situation and I wonder what folks are preparing for as well as what the gov. has planed.
I live in a fairly rural area of western Colorado but we are close to the Interstate so I don't forsee any great problems here so I will go about business as usual. If I lived in a large metro area I would sure think about skipping town or at least get my family away for a while.
I hope we can keep off blue and red and simply discuss strategies for the safety of our families and friends if large scale disturbance occurs.

In closing the most recent thread on this issue, I said:

And I don't think I like the idea of prognosticationg about riots, either. Let's don't do that, OK? It's one thing to be ready as you can for any practical emergency. And it may be that riots following this election are a possibility. But I don't like the idea of discussing them as if... I don't know, looking forward to them or something.

If you want to argue with me on this one, feel free to PM...

It isn't just the openly political aspects of this situation. There is more of an air of bloodthirstiness about it that bothers me. I just don't want this subforum going there.

Yes, civil unrest is a possibility. It has happened before, and it can be expected to happen again given sufficient time and provocation. Most everyone reading this is in fact armed, most of us with the idea of defending ourselves if ever it is necessary to do so.

But we are supposed to be the good guys here. We are not vigilantes, we are not going out there to go headhunting. In short, we are not going to IRRESPONSIBLY discuss THE most serious issues that are apt to come before us as law abiding citizens.

Now if someone wants to start a thread in the proper tone regarding legitimate self defense in situations of civil unrest, we can entertain that discussion. Anything short of the (admittedly elevated) standard which has been established and observed in S&T, on THR, is simply not going to be allowed to live here.

Again- if you have trouble understanding the concepts I just stated, feel free to PM me and we will discuss them further.
