If you go to www.fnhusa.com you now have to choose between FNH USA Law Enforcement & Commercial, FNH USA Military, FN Manufacturing LLC, FN Herstal, and Herstal Group. Under the new products in the LE & Commercial part of the website all versions of the SCAR are listed. I'll have to get on the phone tomorrow at work and see what I can find out. Maybe FN will follow their PS90 & FS2000 trend and sell a semi-auto SCAR to the public.

FN has made unofficial statements about a civilian SCAR, but nothing official yet. One thing to note is that on the website the SCAR is not listed with the semi-auto rifles and two of the models have barrel lengths under 16 inches. It looks like from the website they are not marketing to civilians yet, but hopefully I am wrong.

Good point - they are listed under tactical with the P90 and F2000. The FNAR (tacticalized BAR) rifles also have their own category.

The 2006 SHOT show is when FN reps said FN would be producing a semi-auto only version of the SCAR for civilian sales sometime in Q4 2008.

Hopefully, we'll hear more about this at the 2008 SHOT show this Feb.

I went to the 2006 Shot Show and fondled the SCAR. They told me they would have a civilian version next year.

I wonder what they'll say this weekend at the 2008 Shot Show.

Keep in mind that military procurement of the SCAR is behind schedule, at least based on what we were being told. They're entering service now, but my unit was slated to be getting them quite some time back (and we're not at the front of the line for them), with issue date pushed back twice that I can think of.

I think there will be a civilian version of the SCAR but it won't be turning up until they get the first big block of military rifles out the door.

Seems like the rumor that was going around concerning the civilian SCAR was SCAR-L only, at least initially, and a 16" barrel without the quick change barrel option, I think.

Unfortunately I suspect that the SCAR will be running awefully close to another event we should all be dreading in Q4 2008....

After that it may be up to President Clinton whether FN ships the civilian SCAR.

:(

SCAR and Masada may well be running afoul of the 08 election. This is making me want to pull the trigger, so to speak, on an XCR. The really sad part is that it looks like it may be a problem no matter which side wins the election. :uhoh:

And about a dozen other guns.

Cool I want one! I hate the color however and would like someone to put some sort of black or cool tactical paint scheme on the firearm. But I am optimistic look at cool firearms like the new GSG 5

That pretty much sums up my feelings as well. I'm not holding out hopes of seeing a SCAR anytime soon. The Masada looks interesting, and I want to see what develops there. However if political issues intervene the XCR is Plan B for me.

Come check out the FN Forum - www.fnforum.net - We have Q&A sessions with FN. They recently talked about the SCAR release. Check out the FNH USA subforum....

The entire forum is open to non members, but you do have to join to read that section (which takes 15 seconds)

Both the SCAR and the Masada look like they "might" end up being nice weapons, but whether you'll get one in time is questionable. My advice is to not hold out and run into the dilema of an AWB scare that drives assault rifle prices through the roof. I bought a Robinson XCR and I have been very pleased with it. It has been everything I hoped it would be after about 3000rds and if funds and my wife permits, I just might buy a second one.

Saddle up, boys! Thar be unicorns on the loose!
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You said that about the XCR, and the SIG 556 too.
I personally can't wait for my made in South Carolina Winchester Model 70.

I want an FN's version of the SCAR rifle. I really do.

I don't want a more-neutered-than-required version though. I want the military version minus full auto. If they can't deliver that, well... we'll see.

In any case, there is no reason to not buy an XCR now. It is the *only* rifle on the planet that you can buy today with a full SCAR contract feature set. The only option. It may be the only option by the end of this year as well. And besides, its a great rifle.

The only reason not to buy an XCR would be whether or not Robinson decides to support the rifle in the future. Robinson really shot themselves in the foot with the M96. The XCR seems to be a bit more promising in terms of its longevity in the market. That is a good thing, and time will tell.

i wonder what the price will be

i like it alot and if it is a cheaper than the masada i will get it for my first rifle purchase when i turn 18 in september

The XCR is outselling the M96 by miles already, and it hasn't even been on the market that long. That much is obvious just by looking at the buzz about them on the internet, on their own forum... we could take a poll right here. Everyone who owns one or the other, check the one that you own. :)

If you are that worried about it, you can buy unlimited volumes of spare parts right now, today. And I will do exactly that.

Not only that, you *can* buy M96 parts today if you can demonstrate that you actually need them. i.e., if your bolt is broken, you can mail it to RA and they will send you a new one. Granted they don't make the parts anymore, so they are trying to reserve them for people who actually need them. I can appreciate that under the circumstances.

Only the most popular platforms of all time are truly supported through the course of several decades anyway. Every company out there has, at one time or another, made something and then discontinued it.

Enough of my XCR plug though.

FN SCAR. I hope they make it. I would buy a real version.
