im still working up a load to get 825 FPS in my springer with 200gr LSWC. right now im at 4.1 of clays and my 5 shot averages are 802 FPS.

also if im actually using a 210 grain bullet do i still go by the 200 grain data? i like clays cause its clean and really accurate. but to be honest i havent tried any other in my pistol. any input would be greatly appreciated. -chris

should i go up a hair to make 825 fps with clays or should i change powders once it runs out?

Official data from Hodgdon's website indicates 4.3 gr is the max for a 200 gr Cast LSWC. 3.6 is the starting load. They also indicate 888 fps with the max load of 4.3 out of a 5" bbl. I always use the powder manufacturer's website to get load data, and bounce it off one of my reloading books for a second opinion. Hodgdon's site has data for Hodgdon, Win, and IMR powder since they own all 3. Great interface and easy to customize your load list.

Discussion of max loads without mentioning the cartridge OAL is really nuts! The Lyman 48th Ed lists 200gr lead loads for 2 different bullet designs - one at an OAL of 1.161, the other at 1.235 - that's a BIG difference and certainly effects the pressures developed.

That said, the 1.235 OAL load looks like a standard H&G #68 design (single lube groove). For that they list Clays 3.9 at 701 up to 4.4 at 839 - 5" universal receiver.

My experiance with Clays, is that less is more. When working up loads for my P345, the starting loads were the most accurate. Now I just load 3.9gr with 230gr fmj, tackdriver load:D
