Clearance prices on some savage rifles at Walmart

Do you not have anyone (LGS) who does transfers?

Yes and I support him quite a bit. Hey, I was just being ornery. That said, I have gotten clearance from the tower (she who rules over my life) for take off and I am getting another at Walmart. I am Catholic, I can say penance. Maybe loan it to the parish father next time he goes hunting and he will see to it I am forgiven for supporting the Devil's store.

Here are the two bad boys that are getting me in trouble. These Savage Axis II rifles are nice rifles on their on merit, they are budget rifles (along with quite a few others in the price range) but I feel I got plenty for my money and then some. The matte stainless is a sporter barrel, 6.5 pounds and in 6.5 Creedmoor, the camo rifle is a varmint barrel, about 8 pounds and in .223:

I had them both sighted in good enough for hunting purposes in three rounds each at 50 yards and was dead on my steel at 100 yards. Both of them quickly blew the paper bullseyes off the gong.

Every rifle is an individual with particulars to ammo and even how it likes to be held and shot, but these seem awfully accurate right out of the box with the cheapest ammo I could find. I am sure with quality ammo and when I reload for them I can get sub MOA out of both, just an (sort of) educated but non-expert guess.

I used to be a Ruger guy and now I think I am a Savage guy :) !

Just an update, with the savings I bought a Boyds stock for one of my Walmart rifles. Meet my Savage Axis II Prairie Hunter Coyote 6.5CM with the V3 latch and pillars installed:

This stock is surprisingly light due to the material relieved from the fore stock and slim profile. I added the Nikon BDC 3X9X40 scope I had extra with Rifleman rings and Weaver rail. The rifle shoots like it does not know it is a budget rifle, in other words, it is a very accurate rifle.

Yes, and I do live on the prairie and do occasionally hunt coyotes so it fits. This rifle will be used for mostly drive in (Jeep) hunting where I may walk the last distance to a blind or fixed location overlooking a cutover grain field or to stalk a hedge wind row looking for opportunity.
