Yesterday I purchased a brand new Savage Axis Heavy Barrel rifle in .223Rem. I walked out the door having paid a total of $264.99 after sales tax. Savage also has a $50 rebate now for the Axis rifles which will reduce the total to $214.99. Is that a fair price? Thanks.

How could you go wrong? That sounds like an awesome deal! I don't know how they make any money for that price

Be interested how it shoots having bought a std barrel 223 last year. Mine will shoot 68gr right at MOA @ 100yds. It HATES 55gr shoots them 4-6" right of bull. Plastic stock was a problem until I stiffened it, bedded it and added weight and expanding foam the the butt end. With the original stock I could drastically change POI by moving my front bag. Trigger was a $15 spring and polish job. Pulled and sold the KRAPska scope, throw away the rings, bought a extended base to correct eye relief issues and put a mid range Redfield 4-14 (? from memory) scope on it. Not a bad rifle NOW.
Oh one other original problem that it seems like others had...could not correct for windage - max'd out and elevation was close to max'd out. I finally figured out itcame from the factory with one ring base clamp on UPSIDE DOWN. Looking at the clamp it is asymmetrical and was hitting the barrel.

I got it at a place called Rural King. It was originally priced at $319.99, but was on sale for $249.99.

Does anyone have recommendations for a scope. I'm mainly interested in .223 bullet drop compensated scopes. Thanks!

The other thing I found with mine is it has a really loooong leade. 55's I can't seat long enough, 68 and 75's get seated to 2.42 to touch, 2.40 for close. Cartridges don't fit in a divided hinged top plastic ammo box LOL
