CMP has 3 kinds of M2 Ball on their website. Are they quality. Is one better than the other?

Get all you can at those prices especially if you have a garand. There are slight differences but it's all decent surplus ammo for the price.

Well, how it would it work out of my Stevens 200 bolt gun? I'm not competing in any matches.

It is 30-06 so it will work in any 30-06. It was designed with a medium weight bullet so as not to generate too much pressure and beat on the garand oprod. Mind you it is military FMJ not hunting ammo but is good for general shooting. Some of it is steel jacketed, not AP but in some places they don't like it as it could spark and start a forest fire and what not.

Yea, I just want some cheap range ammo because. I have never hunted because I don't feel confident enough to humanely take an animals life and want something cheap I can practice with at the range to build confidence.

CMP has 3 different types listed on the site. Any major differences between them? Would you recommend one over the others?

Yea that was my knee jerk, just because of the name. Making sure there wasn't anything I needed to know.

Excepting the lot of LC-66 with the all gilding metal jackets that the CMP was selling some years ago.... the Greek HXP is more accurate than any Lake City I've ever shot.

Best,

Garands forever

The Greek HXP is better than the LC. The LC was machine gun ammo that was delinked and while it shoots fine; it is not as good as the Greek. The Greek also comes pre-loaded in stripper clips and sealed in cans. You can not find a better deal anywhere on the web.

Wise move..... And a little coaching and a lot of practice will take care of that problem.

I'm shooting greek in a M1917. Wonderful stuff, wonderful rifle. I'm starting to really love that old lady.

I feel like this is an insane deal. How come its not sold out? Does the CMP just have an ungodly supply?

Read up on CMP, who they are, their history, and the requirements to purchase. Pretty much large volumes and restricted sales. If you think prices are low now you would have S#$t the bed even 5 years ago on the price of surplus ammo.

Well they aren't really low. I'd still love to pay a lot less. But in relative terms the prices are great.

Just sent in a membership application to the Garand Owners Association so that I can get access to some of that ammo. Can't wait!

Watch out for the Korean ammo if they have that. (I din't look at the website yet.) I believe that is Mildly corrosive. Maybe someone else knows more about it.
