Went shooting the other day, took my beloved old Colt 1911 series 70.
I've been shooting this gun for over 20 years now with never a single problem (honest, not so much as a stovepipe). I was using Blazer brass 230 gr ammo, when I jacked the first round in the chamber it jamed in at an angle. Once I got the round properly loaded the gun fired all 7 rounds w/o a hitch. I tried another mag and got the same results. This happened a couple more times, then I noticed that on the round that was jamming the bullet was actually being forced down in the brass. When I got home I tried some different ammo which fed just fine.

Does this sound like a bad batch of ammo?

Yes. Sounds like the ammo wasn't taper crimped, but I'm no expert. Hopefully, some one with some knowlege of the 1911 will weigh in. Tuner?

Feed Burp

Probably the ammo. Try this...Induce the stoppage again and use a foot-long stick to push backward on the muzzle...with the side of the stick! If the gun chambers the round and snaps into battery it could be the mag spring is weak or the extractor channel is impacted with gunk. Remember to keep your finger OFF the trigger too...

Remove the extractor and clean the channel...and try the gun again with the extractor missing. If it feeds smoothly, you have your answer. If not, it's
either the ammo or the mag spring.

Standin' by...and welcome aboard!
