I'm sure the products will be fine, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed that an American icon like Colt is now in foreign hands.

From a security standpoint, if they do get US military contracts, they will be held by a company based in a former Soviet bloc country.

FN seems to be doing well for us. CZ is good people. I'd trust that nation sooner than connecticut, new york, or jersey.

This is only a good thing. Colt branded Bren's and DWX's. Massive quality improvements to Colts 1911's. DW's example should go far.

Thanks Old Dog, you made me laugh this morning. And you are right, Colt IS like those bar girls in Olongapo City: it's all about the money with them, and you feel bad about yourself the next day.

Big but not that big. Far from it. About half the net worth of Ruger and much smaller than FN Herstal.

Ruger is worth 1.1 billion at the moment. Nothing to sneeze at for sure.

Herstal is a different animal altogether. It is such a gigantic conglomerate it is difficult to separate out the worth. FN America in South Carolina does have a large share of U.S. military contracts, including the M249 and M4 type rifles.. Herstal is also involved in the aerospace industry and others. It gets real murky as to who is doing what.

FN Herstal small arms consists of Browning ,Winchester and FN. They still make the FAL and sell small arms to about a 100 countries. They have also been in trouble worldwide for whom they sell to. Apparently about 500,000 of the new NATO pattern rifle (P90?) found its way into the hands of terrorists and insurgents. This is not sitting well in Washington.

CZColt/Canada may have an impact on all this.

No doubt is a great news all around, some blood transfusion for Colt to keep it alive. In addition, CZ will have access to American firearm market, and my wish and pray to export through Czech Republic may be in 10 or 15 years will be again on top of the chart .
