Yup. If you have an older one, or older new springs you are using for replacements then there was a time when the larger front spring was directional and the open end went to the front of the pistol. Fortunately Colt fixed this at some point. The issue was there on my 2002. Here in a picture from about 2002 where I replaced the Houge wrap around grips with some from the old Ajax Co.
