i have been doing researc on the mustang , its not the plusII or goverment or pocketlite. by what colt told me after i contacted them with serial # it was made in 1987 and is nickel , strange thing is the cardboard box it came in, all other boxes i seen have the small print logo on top lid mine has the big logo covers the hole top lid , iam not a collector and want something to ccw and would rather put the mustang up or take in to see what type of trade in value they offer , sure it would ot be much, but what i have been seeing it is a pretty little gun that is getting quitvcollectable. .like new and box and instructions like new, any colt fans out there can throw me some info, expectually on the box... thanks .

Well keep that one and buy NEW I handled the new Colt Mustang at the NRA show this week end. If I would have laid it next to the Mustang in my pocket Other than mine is nickle couldn't tell them apart. Colt told me the parts will interchange and the improved the final fitting on these new ones. Be in the 600 range.

My Mustang is a bright nickle not a satin .

i called colt msg factory ,the year they gave me when i gave them the serial number and i guess it was made in 1987 and had a recall with apiece that covers the sear spring. after all these years they are sending me the kit in the mail. said i should recieve it with in the week, i think that was pretty damn cool of them to do that. i also have been all over the web and found there is alot of followers on this little colt.. i would like to keep mine just to put up, can only go up in value, but do want a nice ccw carry gun and dont want to use the colt...what to do ....lol ?. to many play thing to chose from. all though i do like the sig and my buddy just picked up the s&w bodyguard. thats a nice little piece... thanks

Well I have to say that is an unusual looking box you've got there. Typically Colt factory boxes from that time period had a brown wood print on them without any Colt logo on the top. It wasn't a two piece design like you have shown. The Colt box was one piece and opened from an end panel (which had a label on it with the model info, serial number, etc.), with two styrofoam inserts which held the gun and the paperwork (manual and warranty papers in a plastic bag). I'm not real sure what kind of box you have but it's not something I've ever seen from Colt.

As to a suitable replacement for the Mustang, there's the SIG P-238, and hopefully soon enough, the new Colt Mustang.

i have 2 1 for carry and the other is a safe queen....put some ivory's on the queen and i shoot the other....they are very actuate and reliable...first thing i did was replace all the springs and SS guide rod with Wolff.....still don't get why Colt put a plastic guide rod in them ...have you shot it yet?...

Something doesn't match...Colt said the gun was made in 1987. However, your pic shows the copyright on the owner's manual to be 1990.

Anyway, I saw about half a dozen of those at a gunshow this weekend. They were all priced at $800-850. However, I never saw one change hands and would guess I will see them again at the next show.

There is no reason to put your 1987 COLT Mustang away or sell it so you can buy something else to conceal carry....

There are gun show scalpers out there trying to get $700-$800 out of their Mustangs but they are just that... SCALPERS trying to make big buck before the re-release Mustang Pocketlite's hit the market later this year and devalue their orginal guns.

I don't know *** people are thinking. My Mustang Pocketlite barley cost $350 NIB back in 1993. I still have it to this day and still carry it.... It's a great little conceal carry gun but I have no idea why it would suddenly be worth over 2X the orginal cost.

The new Pocketlite is going to be CNC made and have better small parts than the orginal (thank god no more plastic trigger or guide rod), it's going to be competitively priced with the clone SIG P238 in the $600 range....

I just don't see paying $800 for an orginal 1980's-1990's mfgr'd one that wasn't a top shelf gun to begin with. Nor do I see you selling off your perectly good conceal carry gun to buy another conceal carry gun - unless you just don't like Mustang.

Since your not a collector don't worry about it. It's not like your depriving the collector world from a mint First Gen black powder frame SAA or anything. Take your Mustang out of the box put 5 rnds in the mag and one in the chamber and drop it in your pocket for those quick trips to the supermarket.

i guess your right iam not A COLLECTOR , I HAVE SHOT IT SEVERAL TIMES AND DO LIKE THE FILL. AS THE BOX, IT DOES HAVE THE WOOD PRINT BUT BIG LOGO ? AND INSTUCTIONS DO SAY 90 BUT THE GUN WAS MADE IN 87. HELL I DONT KNOW LETS JUST SHOOT THE THING..LOL

I just wish I'd bought the brand new black Pocketlite I saw at a gunshow in roughly 1989-1990 or so. I think it was $225. Been wanting a Mustang ever since, but not at todays prices, thank you.

Thanks guys, as you know iam very new to the site and like everything about it so far, me and my nephew , he just bought the s&w 380 body gaurd went to the indoor range thursday afternoon and not to brag but the little colt just blew his new s&w away as far as group shoots at 15 yards. i do think i will keep it , just cause it is very accurate and the trigger pull is very very nice.. thanks again and enjoying the high road forums and info from you all ..
