Would you buy a bullpup 9mm carbine?

Nice Concept

Well.... now that's an idea worth maybe buying.

I've often liked a Ruger 10/22 'cause they're handy, and have put legal shorter stocks on a couple - but of course since they're underpowered for anything bigger than a rabbit, I've always liked my Marlin Camp 9, Camp 45, and M1 Carbine.

Something significantly shorter would be pretty cool. I wouldn't mind one with a mag well for Glock, but if the surplus mags are available, no big deal.

I have to wonder if the action would be long enough for 7.62 x 25 or something. I know that can't be a 'primary caliber' for first offering, and agree that the 9mm para is where the surplus ammo is, but if I recall, the Vietnamese converted a lot of MAT-49's from 9mm to 7.62 x 25 because they could get ChiCom ammo... just thinking out loud here. That ammo's cheap, too, and has its place.

Good luck....:)

I'm thinking that it would sell for sure if:

1. it's a bullpup
2. it takes cheap 9mm ammo, which can be suppressed easily and effectively with 147 gr subsonics
3. Related to #2, it has a threaded muzzle to add your suppressor
4. Related to #2, it is designed to take 71 round 9mm suomo mags

That would rock the hiz-zouse! :D

If you make it take Glock 19 and 17 mags and price it under 400, I will buy one and many others will too!

ETA: The Kel-tec sub2000 is the only other carbine out there to my knowledge that markets itself as a companion carbine for the pistols you already have. If you make it take lots of kinds of magazines, I have a feeling people will get them so they can save the hassle of buying new mags. Sharing mags is also a big plus among the minimalist and survivalist crowds! Especially since I have to own 10-20 mags for every gun I own, lugging those things around is no easy task AND they become a small fortune once you have more than two platforms to provide mags for..

The Kel-tec sub2k is ugly as hell, your bullpup design is very nice looking (this coming from an AK person, so it doesn't mean much). Bullpup is a big plus over the sub2k--give us some good irons to boot and it'll be a seller. Perfect truck gun imho. Oh and one more thing, I'd like to see a decent profile barrel--no pencil barrel crap!

AP

ETA again: I like your initial design too--looks very mean. except for the top feeding concept how do you shoulder that? Again this is coming from an AK fan--many will disagree with me.

While the bull pup configuration may make sense from a tactical perspective, I personally think they're really, really ugly and would never own one.

Yes I would in a heartbeat. I agree with many of the comments and I would much rather have a SBR uzi or 9mm AR15 but Illinois doesn't allow SBR so a bullpup is the closest thing I can get in terms of OAL.

Yes and no,

Yes with regular sten mags but no with a modified sten mag. I have an AR setup that takes regular sten and a MPA that takes regular sten mags, no need to go outside the box on this one.

Plus yes on 7.62 x 25, 30 carbine and Glock mags!

We're back to work on it. We were tied up getting production parts done but we got some machinery freed up now to dedicate to making the remaining bullpup components

Might just be interested in this myself. Like the look of the Berreta, and like the idea of the Keltec, actually like shooting my little Hi-Point and if you end up with something that shoots as well as the Hi-point, but is not so fugly, accepts common mags, and comes in around $300 then yep you can pencil me in for at least 3. (I have 2 boys who shoot so I am buying in triplicate these days).

I like bullpups but I gotta wonder why for a 9mm? The Sub-2000 already is about as short as a rifle can legally be (and it folds to half that!) AND it still has a 16" barrel. As far as the 9mm carbine goes, I think the Subby design trumps all others out there and a bullpup wouldn't really offer much over one.

Now you make a semi-auto bullpup that is similar to the P90 (with the mags and ejection) and make it in .357 Magnum, 44 Magnum, or 10mm and I'm game! ;)

Nice desing BTW, I always like to see innovation.

Would probably be easiest with 10mm, as it is shorter than the 5.7x28, but it would probably be too much for straight blowback without a really heavy bolt/springs.

That said, I'd buy one as outlined in this thread if it was lefty-friendly. I don't want SA80 jaw!

owlnmole and kingjoey i really like the idea esp kingjoeys drawing however if i were to buy one it would have to

A) come in at or below $300

B) offer me either a common mag or have hi cap mags commonly available

C) offer me a little more oomph

i have a hi point 995 and now that ive shot it i love it but i really wish i could get a .45 or .357 or .44 in that platform

I'd buy it if came with a fixed stock, and it looked real ugly like the STEN. Like if the magazine went in the side, etc.

I want a bullpup. If an affordable (think the price of a HP 995ts, around $250) 9mm is available when I go to buy one, I will seriously consider it. Otherwise I'm saving my pennies for a PS90 :D

The Hi-Points only take small capacity mags. I've been thinking of making a bullpup from a Mech-Tech carbine, I already have 33rd Glock mags for it.

Use an electronic trigger system from a paintball gun and solve the heavy, sloppy bullpup trigger pull. Use a twin trigger version and it could legally match full-auto firing rates. Yeah it would need batteries but this isn't a military rifle it's a bullet hose for shooting speedy backyard varmints.

I agree that carbine length barrels arn't needed for pistol calibers but an 18" barrel keeps the noise level down so I don't freak the neighbors out when I let loose a burst.

BTW Hi-Point finally released thier 45ACP carbine last week. Too bad about those small mags.
