Does anybody have or know of someone compensating a 1911, I have a kimber ultra carry and a colt defender and I think getting a theaded and comped barreled would be a unique mod... Has it been done and does it help recoil any

I have a comped barrelled 5".. if you are looking to put a comp on a shorter barrel, it's my opinion that you would be better off just carrying a 5" standard barrel 1911.

the claim is the 45 is too slow to be effective. Maybe maybe not.. I think it does have some effect. The BIGGEST effect I've noticed about the compensator is, the extra weight. I think a 5" will fit and shoot better than a comped 3" or even 4".

I had an OACP with Marvel compensator.
It was a very soft shooting little gun, contrary to frequent Internet Expert Reports that the "low pressure" .45 ACP will not power a compensator.

It is going to cost you, though.

I have a 3.5" 1911 that I've been considering getting comped, but I haven't been able to find a barrel with a comp for mine. No clue as to cost.

(I have an RIA 1911A1 CS)

It won't help very much. To make a comp effective it has to have an expansion chamber or two or three. It also needs more pressure than a .45 ACP generates. On a 9mm or .38 Super it works very well. I have never fired a .45 ACP in any gun that "needed" compensating. Just hanging a weight off the muzzle would help as much.

Certainly a 38 Super will work better than a 45 in a comp gun, but the oft quoted conventional wisdom that a 45 won't work is not backed up by my experience. I've comped 45s, 38 Supers, and 9 mm's with good results in all. If it is what you know that you want, go for it. An Officer's (3.5") with a comp to bring it out to about Commander length (4.25") is a nice combo. Not hard to accomplish. Barrels are easily threaded to take a comp. Trickiest part is facing off the front of the slide to provide proper clearance/aestheticly pleasing appearance.

I don't want to comp it as a carry gun more of just a hey look at this it's different and a blast to shoot...I figured a 4 inch barrel would have enough length to get threaded

I have a 2011 that is in between commander and officers but it's not a "carry" pistol.

For a compensated carry pistol I would go with a Schuemann hybrid comp barrel. As they don't change the dimentions of the pistol.
