Hi,

New to IDPA, I have not shot in one yet but I am interested. I read alot about folks using comptac for IDPA. My question is:

Is there a certain OWB Comptac holster in particular I should be looking at?

Also, and this would be very helpful. Is there a particular holster that I can use for concealed carry that is OWB that will work with IDPA - does not have to be a Comptac, any recommendations are fine. Appreciate any and all advice. I went to order the comptac and stopped when I saw several to choose from.

Regards

Rob

Edit -- Use a M&P 9c as well as the full size.

I'm pretty sure IDPA does not allow the use of DOH holsters. {drop offset holsters}. Other than that your good to go. Grip must be above the belt. Standard Comtac holsters are fine. Bladetech holsters are also very common in IDPA\USPSA. Basicly just about any OWB CC holster is fine.
I don't shoot a lot of IDPA but I think I'm correct.
I've used my S&W 5906 with a Galco CQB open top leather holster. I also use a DeSantis speed scabbard.
I see you have a full size M&P? That would be my choice over the M&Pc, but you could use it. You would be shooting SSP div. {stock service pistol}
Find a club and go have some fun, you'll love it!

I see lots of people use the Blackhawk OWB holsters and I use them as well as a Comptac Minotaur for IWB when shooting IDPA. The main thing you need to consider is that the gun has to be behind the seam of your pants, i.e. on the back half of your body. At my local matches its more of a have fun type of thing and nobody inspects all of your gear under a magnifying glass. As long as your stuff works and is safe its good to use. The Blackhawk holsters are much cheaper at about $20 and work great. As said before, no drop leg or offset holsters.

Not quite. The gun can roughly be centered on the seam of your pants. From the rulebook Appendix:

"J. Must be positioned on the belt in a location that will keep the center of the trigger pad behind the centerline of the body"

Appreciate the replies. I will take at those mentioned as well as keep reading.

Thanks again

Rob

I see more Locking paddles than anything else but I prefer the Speed paddle myself.

The center of the trigger pad has to behind your centerline, not the whole gun.

Oops, Mr Borland already beat me to it.

Its close enough either way, thanks for the fixes. Side of the hip make for an easy draw and the paddle holsters are easy to draw from and retention is great. I was shooting with a guy once that had a stock M&P open top holster with no retention other than friction. We were running from one target to the next and it bounced out, clattering on the concrete and breaking the pistol. The slide release was all jacked up and the slide was off the rails. Case in point: always have good retention.

Remember, the General Manager of Comp-Tac is Gordon Carrell; one of IDPA's Distinguished Masters. He runs a M&P Pro 9 in a Comp-Tac paddle holster. A great combination.

And .. in today's news....

Randi Rodgers has joined Team Comp-Tac as a shooter and as the new Marketing Manager for Comp-Tac.

I shot the S&W Indoor National Championship as a member of Team IDPA with a S&W M&P 9L and Comp-Tac's new Digital Camo pattern paddle holster, mag & flashlight pouches. Miss Kitty did the same using a Comp-Tac Diva paddle holster for women.

Comp-Tac is a Premier IDPA Sponsor along with S&W.
