I have been seeing companies offering concealed carry badges , I am not a law enforcement officer of any sort Nor do I want to be. A friend of mine bought one of these badges and i sorta made fun of him at first.

Then I gave this some thought. I myself do carry concealed. I never thought much of having any ID badge.

However lets say you come across a situation Where a concealed citizen happens to get control of a bad situation and the cops come rolling in. They have no idea whats going on but they see and armed man in a place he shouldn't be? would it be a good idea to have some recognizable ID to flash the police? and maybe other concerned scared citizens? .

Lets say you see someone getting mugged ,raped or kidnapped. should you look the other way? or maybe help the victim and get control of the criminal . And have some easy visible ID for when the police arrive.?

Its my opinion but i would think if a police officer is called to scene and a weapon is drawn he will automatically see the person with the weapon the bad guy. Even though he was only detaining the actual criminal.

I have seen some people with permits who do not need to even touch a gun and i have seen some cops that make me wonder how they got there?

I am not saying permit holders should fight crime or play batman and robin, but if I see a someone being harmed, I am more likely to help than look away. Most crimes happen because criminals think they intimidate most citizens and know most of them will run.

If i was in a situation where I was detaining a criminal with a gun drawn, I would want the police to know right away in a very easy to see and identify form who the bad guy is.

Lets say I had a criminal under control in my own home and the police come up to them the bad guy is the one with the weapon, If I drop my gun when police arrive because they ordered me to not knowing whats going on , and the criminal grabs his other weapon and shoots me or the police officer. If i had some ID easily recognized my life would not be in danger and the police can safely move forward .

I was reading a similar post elsewhere about it , and seen a lot of negativity on it . And i was one of the guys making fun of my friend for having one of those concealed badges.

After thinking about it . I think the state who issued you the concealed weapon permit should issue this badge to you . I think it should never be visible until it is absolutely necessary. Any anyone using it in the wrong manner should have his permit revoked .I Saw someone talk about a guy who was flashing one to every one he could, my question is how did he get a concealed permit to start with?

So I don't know but I think it may be a good idea after all. Especially if it could prevent me from getting killed. I think they should be issued with The full concealed carry permits.

With crime and unemployment on the rise maybe its not such a bad idea?

What do you think ?

A badge denotes some type of official or police authority. Sounds like you have neither.

Why would possessing some type of of unofficial badge make you the "good guy"?

Sorry, no badge for you.

...a lotta cops...

...resent the badge and think a licensed carrier is playing cop...I don't carry one for that reason...taking someone into custody is dangerous in any situation...the badge wouldn't help as much as your demeanor being calm and speaking clearly to the arriving officer....obeying his commands instantly...even off-duty officers have been shot by a nervous uniformed cop by mistake...it's a crap shoot....the one time I had it happen to me since becoming a civilian...I had my gun holstered and the BG's gun held up in my hand by the barrel...clearly not a threat and one of the arriving officers knew me...no problem...but I had a BG who didn't want to resist, too...who knows about the next one...hope there isn't one...I would tell the officer to cover him and then put my gun down carefully...if it worked that easily...I would thank God!!! As far as carrying one "in case" they see your weapon..just DON'T let them see your weapon...

Bad badge no!

Don't take this the rong way but if you want somthing gold and flashy then do yourself a big favor and buy a watch. That fake badge will buy you more hurt than you would know what to do with. It's just a gimmic to free you of your hard earned money.

If you shouldn't be there, why are you there?

If you're displaying a badge (a sign of authority) when in fact you don't have the credentials to back it up, what does that say about the carrier?

If you have detained someone, or a criminal is holding a gun on you (why he waited around this long I don't know) and the cops roll up, I wouldn't recommend going reaching for anything. Especially if "anything" is a shiny metallic object concealed on your person.

I *do* occasionally pin a laminated BUSINESS card on one of those retractable keeper things on my belt next to my holster if I'm OC'ing. The idea being that most of the general public see *anything* remotely official looking and they won't freak out in the grocery line.

However, my personal business card in no way denotes any form of authority and could not be mistaken for a badge.

*personal former-LEO experience disclaimer*
BAD IDEA.
when the police do finally reach the scene, you need to be unarmed with your paws in plain sight. the responders have little if any details from their dispatch regarding who the threat is. your cute "involved citizen" badge will most likely only confuse the situation.
as far as moral obligation to intervene in muggings, etc...
when you are in the general public, your castle doctrines do not cover others. be prepared to hire a good lawyer if you choose to do the right thing outside your home. sad but true.
granted, i'd probably intervene if i were alone and not endangering anyone but myself by stepping in. know your local laws regarding good samaritan situations.

Could be mistaken as a police identification in a adrenaline charged situation. Also it is redundant. If you live in an open carry state which requires no CCW permit you do not need it or want it; if you live where you need a CCW permit then THAT'S what you need.

I don't think it could legitimatly be considered impersonating a policeman but the problem is as I said misidentification.

And I agree with others: police will NOT LIKE IT!

I live in an OC state, but I still don't feel comfortable carrying openly. Just because you can doesn't mean you want to or should do so. Last thing I want is to have to lay on belly in a parking lot because a soccer mom saw my pistol on my hip and called the police because she thought I was up to something.

On topic, I would NEVER buy that badge. You could be construed as impersonating an officer if you flashed it in public, you see a badge, you think Cop, end of story.

Eh, just more of the same. You want people to think you're something you're not. The first time I ran into a concealed carry badge wearer about 15 years ago, his rationale was exactly the same. "I clip it next to my gun in case my jacket blows open so people don't panic."

Unfortunately, all this does in reinforce the myth that only folks on official duty can carry weapons and anyone else with a gun who doesn't have a badge or official looking ID card is a criminal.

Sorry, no badge for you.

It won't make you a good guy, but cops tend not to shoot people with some kind of badge and wallet combo hanging from their neck, so it saves your life and they can take a close look later.

If it is gold and says something like "Official Citizen of the State of Texas" around a star, I don't think there would be anything illegal about it.

is this an attempt by an online retailer to drum up business for a product thats been laughed out of many posts on thr over the years? Sure feels like it. Kinda feels weve had alot of retailer style product plugs lately.

On another board (I think it was Lightfighter) there was a good thread where the badge and some other products (like a CCW sash that you could pull open to say CCW holder!) were discussed.

The LE emphatically stated that anyone armed would have a gun trained on them until the situation was secure and that you'd best listen to commands from officers to put the gun down no matter what you were wearing or flashing.

if you have a badge on in the wrong place and time, that just makes you the FIRST TARGET as for me, naaa i want to pick my own time thanks...
