I am probably not the only one this has happened too (I hope not, hopefully the last). I was looking through my wallet today and realized I had let my Carry Permit expire (Quick check your date right now!). This is scary since I have carried illegally for about 2 weeks. I went right to the local police and re-applied, now the wait begins.... hopefully less than I waited 4 years ago. Our church started a shooters group last year that meets weekly, I guess I'll be shotgunning until I am reinstated. My oldest daughter says, " This will probably be the time you will need it and won't have it ". I rebuked her and pray I won't . I feel real irresponsible and hypocritical in a way since I have challenged so many others to get a permit and always obey the laws.... enough rambling...

Back when I lived in Massachusetts, the Commonwealth failed to renew my LTC in time even with a four month head start on the application.

Fortunately the new LTC was only a week late, 'cause in MA you're not "allowed" to keep firearms in your own residence without at least an FID card. Those used to be lifetime issue but were changed to 4 years like LTCs. Oh and of course they got rid of the 90-day grace period for expirations too.

Considering that no JBTs broke down my door during that week, either the Beverly Police Department isn't interested in prosecuting instant felons produced by the state or nobody is minding the till anyway.

The sad truth is, many of us are guilty of behavior that if prosecuted and convicted would land us in jail. All because the web of endless laws about every little aspect of our lives is so large its almost immpossible to truly "keep the law":banghead:

This morning im off to renew mine ahh only the 6-8 month wait mine will preobley be expried since the wait has gone up so much guess ill just stay home till it come in:) supposed to be only 45 days to get one here good luck though

I just went thru a change of address with my CCW.The OSBI reply to my information request said that I just had to send a notarized copy of my signature with license #,SSN #, new address and $15.They also said that I had a 30 grace period for the change to take place.11 days and counting! The real kicker is that in october it will have to be renewed, but I can't do both at the same time.
Gubermint Go Figure.:cuss:

Mine has no exp. date.......what gives with you guys in "gun friendly" states,I'm in NY(liberal heaven) and mine is good forever?????
Although I do believe that they do another background check every 5 years.

In Virginia, we have the Virginia Citizens Defense League (an excellent lobbying organization for RKBA issues--very effective). One service they offer is to e-mail you a reminder when your CHP is nearing expiration. Good idea.

A proposed law change that VCDL is supporting in the Legislature right now would remove the ability of circuit court judges to drag their heels on issuing/renewing and would direct the cop shop to issue a temporary CHP at the legal expiration point-45 days after you apply.

These ideas might be applicable to Y'All as well...

TonyB, enjoy while it lasts. Pataki's current budget proposal will put a 5-year limit on NY permits, plus a $100 fee for the permit and a $25 fee for each amendment! Check out the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association's web site for details ... and write some letters or make some calls!

Just renewed my PA permit, which was set to expire end of December. Good idea to check your dates.

Leatherneck,

I just checked out the VCDL web page - good stuff (thanks for mentioning it).

(im)patiently awaiting my permit :D

If you apply to renew your Indiana LTCH within 60 days of its expiration, you can continue to carry on the strength of your copy of the renewal application until your new license comes in.

My concealed carry license is good for four years!!

Each time I have had to renew it the county sent me a nice letter reminding me of the expiration date, and suggested that I make a renewal appointment. They also informed me that as long as I made and completed the renewal application before my current permit expired my current permit would remain in effect until I received the new one. Such a deal! No excuses for not taking care of it. Good shooting;)

they didnt tell me if my old one would be good till new one comes in this morning but the ladys excate words were "see you in 6 months to pick up your permit god willing" Wow i got my other oen faster so much for shall issue they cost 105 for 5 years now

CCW expired

That's great - they tax us to exercise our 2nd Amendment Rights of "keep and bear arms". What does "bear" mean? I'll give you a hint - it's not a big furry animal who lives in the woods.

Expired CCW License

One thing about living here in Poverty, USA is
the fact that we have a grace period on our
CCW renewal. I've known persons whose CCW's
were 90 days delinquent; and the renewal was
for them to "annie-up" another $7.50 for another
year.

Best Wishes,

WOW! I posted this morning about how long my change of address was taking and lo and behold my new license was in the mail when I got home.
So let's try this again.
Man I've been waiting two weeks for my tax refund.:neener:

Boy it sure has been a long time since I've gotten :what:

Good reason to have a Florida permit as well, if your home state allows residents to carry with a non-resident permit. Actually I'm not sure Oklahoma does, now that I think about it. I know Missouri will under their new law. Guess I'd better check that, though right now renewing is no problem in Oklahoma and mine is good for another year.

Haha. How odd...I went through the same thing about a month ago.

I could have sworn on my life to getting the permit in December, but it was actually October of two years ago. I checked it towards the end of December, just like I planned, and I had been carry illegally for hmmm...over 2 months. A quick call to the sheriff's department and everything was taken care of.

The next day I went in and submitted the renewal paperwork. The longest 2 weeks of my life without my gun. My girlfriend can testify to the fact that I didn't want to go out of the house. How's that for paranoid? ;)

I did feel like a fool.

esheato...

I had let mine expire too. Fortunately we have a short grace period (30 days I think.) so I could still do the renewal course instead of the full-blown CCW course. Here in AZ there is proposed legislation to give lifetime status to our CCW permits. I hope it passes and have contacted my representatives asking for their support.

Edited to add: HB2384 is the proposed bill for those living in AZ.

CCW Permit Arrives

Just 7 days ago I realized my permit had expired... went to local police to reapply and yesterday it arrived in mail! How's that for service?

My CCW was set to expire in November of last year.

I moved in April 2003, and Florida's rules require that you notify them within 30 days of a change of address. Did I notify them? No.

Then I got married in May and changed my name. Did I notify them about that? No.

I changed my name on my driver's license in about July. Did I notify them then? No.

Then I received my renewal notice in about August, and I negligently let it sit until a couple of days before the actual expiration date in November, at which time I had the form notarized, got the money order, made a copy of my marriage certificate and new driver's license, wrote a letter explaining my name change and address change, and expressed the whole package to Tallahassee. I wondered how much trouble they would give me.

To my pleasant surprise, I got my new CCW, with my new name and address, within a couple of weeks. :)
