Connecticut will fall this week.

As soon as my last kid enters college (6 years), i'm moving out. The gun issue is the straw. Excessive capacity taxes, high cost of living and soccer- mom-liberals running the state are too much for me to handle anymore.

Great place to live, just not great to live here....

And with all this looking cut and dried, the CT gun grabbers still aren't happy...

Ron Pinciaro, executive director of Connecticut Against Gun Violence, said his group will live with the lawmakers' decision not to ban them ("high capacity magazines") as other states have done. He said the leaders made their decision based on what was politically feasible.

"We have to be satisfied. There are still other things that we want, we'll be back for them in later sessions," he said. "But for now, it's a good thing."

Why would Ruger leave? They helped with the first 10 round limit.

Have these people never heard that God created man, and Sam Colt made them equal?

Since Bill Ruger died, I believe Ruger has seen the error of its ways of the past.

Eb1, you obviously haven't been paying attention to Ruger in the past few months.

No, I haven't been sitting on Ruger's heels. What has happened in the last few months?
As far as the companies leaving. It is simple.
If they stay in CT and continue to put money into a government that limits the 2A rights of people in that state. Then it should be our choice not to buy their products. Isn't that what has been said in the last couple of months here on THR? A boycott of companies that do not support the 2A.

I have a question. If you have a 10 round limit on magazines. Does that make it to where you can have 10 in the magazine, then one in the chamber?

I don't know... But I do think if ten is the limit, there should be a law requiring that your magazine be full at all times.:D

Wonder if limiting cars to seven gallons of gas in their tanks will lead to a decrease in hit-and-run accidents?

Just came back from a CT gun store. Its insanity. Cars just left anywhere in the parking lot. Even blocking others in and blocking traffic. Hundreds of people in the store clamoring to buy anything they can get their hands on. Almost zero handgun ammo left. Stripped lowers going for $349 and people lined up to get them.

Its like a scene out of an apocalypse movie.

Not quite the same, but I think a better analogy would be I wonder if limiting car's maximum speed to 70mph would lead to a decrease in automobile fatalities. An even better analogy would be limiting motorcycle speeds, since no one 'needs' to go 186mph on a street legal motorcycle. Yet as long as you have enough money, you can buy any fast car or bike that you like, whether you need it or not.

It IS being put to a public vote. The next time there's an election in CT, voters will render their decision in this matter. If enough voters are anti gun ban and they demand the ban be repealed, it will be. If it turns out that more CT voters are happy with the ban, then it'll stay. Remember Clinton's ban? It expired in 2004 because American voters didn't want it anymore. If they did, you can bet that it would have been renewed.

In the end, democracy will be served. Our laws will reflect what the majority wants, and that's as it should be.

And here lies the problem, if the will of the majority are against the will of the few then it is no longer, IMO considered a free state. Or is it? Besides this is not a true democracy. This is a republic despite what the president wrongly calls it. I don't think the majority wanted this president back in office but because he won the key states he made it happen. then again this is not counting the sheer number of voter fraud that probably ensued either. I don't know call me a hardcore conservative but to me the whole idea of being free is that a free man should be able to do as he wishes to some reasonable degree. Infringing on perfectly legit law abiding people's rights IMO is not what I would consider free by any stretch of the meaning. It is just the beginning to absolute control. There is a fine line between freedom and slavery. Those lines are already starting to be crossed. It will be different kind of slavery than the one people currently think of but a form of slavery nontheless. Most of us are already slaves to some degree. You have to do all kinds of stuff already just because society calls for it. If you want a certain way of life then you are a slave to your job to pay for it, etc. The list goes on and on but that is a little beyond the scope of this board.

If this law passes, I WILL BE A CLASS D FELON THE NEXT DAY!

Good grief. This is almost as bad as New Zealand.

Next thing you know they'll be going after pepper spray. That's a Class E restricted item in New Zealand, right up there with belt fed machineguns and grenade launchers.

(Studying "the march of the anti-gunners" in other countries.)

For what it's worth it appears the anti-gunners were finally satiated once they got pepper-spray banned. The anti-gun movement vaporized, and the leaders moved on to other countries. (Guess their work wasn't done in Australia, one of the NZ anti-gunners moved and is chairing up the anti-gun movement there.)

Slippery slope... too many states falling in too short of a time.

In 3 months we lost the remnants of NY, then Colorado, now Connecticut.... and we're fighting tooth and nail in Illinois.

Trent: Personally, I believe this was a coordinated effort by the Progressives, possibly lead by Progressive Democrat liberals financed and organized by Bloomberg and others like the MoveOn crowd.

Too many of these regulations have the same language and intent to be coincidence; typically legislatures like to craft their own bills in their own language. Given the magazine capacity restrictions, while 10 was common (Federal AWB days), the variances were designed to accommodate handgun capacity or return to the Federal AWB days. Here in NY, the only reason the legislature (led by Emperor Cuomo and his minions) returned to the 10 round limit for sale was in an attempt to avoid or defuse lawsuits that would cost the State hundreds of thousands (in State Atty's salary) to defend. Good luck with that, we are ready to take this to SCOTUS if necessary.

NY firearms owners and other liberty loving NY residents have been awakened and even the press (they are most likely doing so unwittingly) are reporting facts. SAFE has serious issues that will be litigated for a while. The State Budget that was passed with uncharacteristic speed is now being questioned and not positively reviewed. The end result is more folks in NY are paying closer attention to their politicritters than ever before. That's a good thing. The scariest thing I see in the CT legislation is the mental health reporting provisions; it seems like all you will need to "diagnose" a mental health issue is "training" as it speaks to a "first aid for mental health". First aid training like Basic First Aid as taught by the Red Cross? Whoa, that's very scary. Very!

Like in IL, we the gun owners of NY are on point. Yet, you folks still have a chance; your legislature is still debating and you have allies still fighting. That is also a good thing. Keep up the heat and light.

No doubt, if you've see what they've been trying in Illinois, it's horrific.

Skipping committee hearings. Introducing amendments to shell bills on the floor without any review in rules or judicial committee. Without budgetary notes. Without debate. Violating house floor procedure to quash discussion on budgetary notes (which are missing). Holding pension reform over the heads of everyone, risking outright bankruptcy of our state if they don't get what they want.

It's laughable, but at the same time, very frightening. The Chicago dems are only a few votes shy of passing restrictions that would exceed New York; no grandfathering on possession of high-capacity magazines, or having a single round of 50 BMG, felonies. Sell, move, or go to prison. Your three choices.

So far we've stalled them out, but ONLY due to MASSIVE grass roots efforts. Chicago is fighting hard to find, buy, bribe, or blackmail those last few votes they need.

Fortunately we had a decade of prep-work to solidify gun owners in this state, as a pretty sizable contingent of pro-gunners formed together to lobby for concealed carry. That group is now being turned on the politicians to mobilize and light up phone lines, file witness slips at committee hearings, e-mail and mail politicians. They've been FLOODED with opposition to any gun bans. Some reps have taken as long as a month and a half to get back to me with a form letter saying they support the 2nd amendment, they've got so many messages.

You guys in CT need to get lists of politicians e-mail and phone numbers posted at EVERY gun club. EVERY gun shop. EVERY gun show. And get people hammering those phones.

Tell them that they'll be out of a job if they pass any anti-gun legislation.

What is a "licenced range"? Does such a thing exist under CT law? Is this another back-door ban?

Probably. It's the same language that was in the push made in IL recently (defeated here).

They tried to make it so you could only use "licensed ranges" (which there was no infrastructure for).

I haven't read all the CT stuff yet, but our version ALSO had a requirement that the range operator had to have a Federal Firearms license, and a FULL TIME range safety officer on site.

Which would have shut down 95%+ of the Sportsmans Clubs and ALL public shooting ranges. Those are all not for profit, and I've never heard of one in IL that's operated by an FFL holder... since part of an FFL is "to be engaged in the business of selling guns" (for a profit). There are quite a few ranges that would have been OK, gun shops with indoor shooting ranges, but the vast majority of ranges here are small groups of guys who collectively own a shooting club (like the one I belong to; it's membership is fixed at around 200).

You've got to get everyone you know educated regarding the Left's agenda, get active and invest time, talent, and treasure to get like minded people in office to change the commie laws. So many of us complain and whine, but not only do they NOT support conservative candidates, they don't even show up to vote! We ought to come up with a poll, asking our fellow High Roaders how many voted, or didn't vote, or voted for gun grabbing candidates. Too often we have no excuse if we aren't willing to get in the fight!
