Last week at the range, I found out that my gun club had a CZ 75 B for rent, and though it was fitted with a really odd looking 6" barrel on the otherwise normal frame and slide I fell in love with that little gun after just two magazines worth of shooting. So, as I am on the market for a 9mm, I stopped by the local gun store yesterday to check out if they had any of these and whay they would cost, and aparently he caried no less than four variants, of which three were of interest to me, namely the 75 B, the 85 B and the 75 SP-01. The guy I talked to claimed that the 85 B was an 'improved' version of the 75 B, but unfortunately he could not enlighten me as to how the 85 B model had been 'improved'. So, here comes the question; can you? My needs are basically anything but concealed carry (I dont carry because Im not allowed to, not because I dont want to!), so which one of these two guns would suit me best, and is there any gun that is around that size that will perform better? It may be worth mentioning that I dont really like polymer guns, and that I will be sharing this gun with my girlfriend, who has considerably smaller hands than me.

Also, there is the SP-01 version which supposedly is a gun taylored for IPSC, with a longer frame (though it has the same overall length, right?), improved weight distribution for easier follow up shots, and an accesory rail. I dont do IPSC, but dosent these improvements sound like they would benefit any shooter? Would I get a better all purpose gun if I chose the SP-01 over the 75/85 B?

The 85B is essentially the same as the 75B, except for the fact that the 85B has a slide release and safety on both sides of the gun (to accomodate left-handed shooters).

Why can't you carry concealed???

For any who are interested, Bud's Gun Shop has some 75B's listed for $377....

You might want to check out the Witness. It's made by Tangfoglio, and is a copy of the CZ-75. It's imported by EAA, and there is a steel version. It runs less than $350. I haven't heard anything bad about it. I plan on buying one myself.

For a range gun, the CZ75B is my main staple at this point. I use the other guns for conceal carry use, but the 75B is my IDPA gun and general range gun, though in a pinch it could be a fantastic defense weapon, with a 16+1 shot capacity of 9mm or 9mm +P.

the 85b offers ambi controls, safety and slide release. other than that it is the same gun. the 85combat offers an adjustable sight and no firing pin block.
the SP01 is a heavier gun, offers ambi safety, mag release is reversible, beveled magwell and a beavertail that allows a slightly higher and deeper grip.
The SP01 was not really tailored for IPSC..but has been quickly adopted for the games..as the improver ergonomics and heavier frame allow quicker sight recovery, thus possibly faster shooting.

any of the guns you listed are great guns..for range, competition and self-defense purposes.

Love Cz

I just got three, two in 9mm and one in .22LR.

They are well made, shoot like rifles and I am ashamed to say I just now discovered them.

All those SIG, H&K, Glocks etc and NOW I find the CZ.

For the money, they are hard to beat.

For a range/home defense, etc sidearm, you couldn't beat anyone of them, except the mag capacity of the SP01 is 19 rounds. Normal CZ mags are 16 rounds, so if 3 more is what you want, go for it. The SPO1 is avilable in both Standard safety,(carry cocked and locked if you wish), and the Tactical, (DA/SA with decocker), available even though it isn't listed on the website.
The standard CZ75B is available in standard, and DAO. Great ergonomics, reliable, dependabl;e, you know, CZ.
If it was my choice of theabove, I would go for the SPO1, but that's because I already have a PO1 which covers anything the SPO1 is too big for!:)

CZ rocks.

Thanks for the pics and info guys :)

So, as none of the guns future users will be left handed, the choice is now between a SP01 and a 75B, but since I wont need to carry it I think that I´ll go with the SP01.

Again, thanks for lending me your expertice.

SP01 sounds like a great choice. Then again, CZ basically makes no pistols (in 9mm) that I wouldn't like to own.

That's a nice photo, armoredman. I use my P-01 (olive drab) as a "house gun," so the image is very appropriate.

A set of CTC laser grips, like yours, are on my "to buy" list. Ditto night sights.

If you will check post number 27884 you will find more answers to your questions about CZs.

It sound like you cannot make a bad choice.

P.Plainsman, thank you very much.:) That is my everyday all the time gun. Here is the other picture from that session - this is also my desktop at work.
