I'm saving my pennies for a Kahr 9mm...

I can buy a CW-9 for ~$400 NIB.

or...

buy a K-9 second hand for ~$350 from the Kittery Trading Post.

I know the K-9 is a superior gun.....but....

I'm concerned about the extra 8 o.z. (~25 o.z. vs. ~18 o.z.) as I intend to ankle cary daily. (Is this an insignificant difference?)

My one and only previous experience buying used was not a good one. (I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to independantly evaluating the guns condition...aside from the "pretty" factor)

I know Khar changed their specs. some time ago, opeinig up the chamber to solve some feed/eject problems. (I don't reload, so is this even an issue?)

Can anyone offer a shipmate some sound advice?

On your ankle the difference will be great. The other night my bro-in-law and I were comparing his 642 with my 342. Differences were minmal handling them but those couple oz made a difference when they were in the pocket and moving around. I would think the differences would be even more exagerrated with ankle carry.

The weight will be noticable but don't overlook the quality factor. I think the all steel Kahrs are top notch but I didn't have much luck with the Kahr P-9 I bought new. The problems I had were design related and not some flaw that might be fixed. The frame itself flexed enough to cause malfuctions. It was worst when I used the 8rd mag that came with the gun.

Do what you want but I don't think Kahr has even admitted to having a serious design flaw with their plastic pistols let alone come up with a solution.

Kittery has one for $350?!

Did you see this in person? Lowest on their site is $430!
Why I hadn't gone there in a while...

Just called Kittery, the cheapest K9 they have, used, is $430. That's about what I figured.

Man. $350, I would have grabbed one.

I own a Kahr MK9 and it has been good. I don't shoot it very much. I don't know anybody who has put a lot of rounds through one. There are quite a few K9s out there used.

Has anybody put 10,000 rounds through a Kahr?

Trust me, you don't want 25 ounces bouncing around on your ankle. Go for the light weight. I've carried a steel J frame in an ankle holster, terrible compared to an aluminum gun. My Taurus UL is 15 ounces and works dreamy in an ankle holster, though I don't normally wear on the ankle.

I too would be leary of a used plastic Kahr. If it worked why would they be selling it? They are great to carry. There are good deals on the used steel guns as people trade them in for the lighter plastic series.

I picked up a new CW9 and it self-destructed in about 25 rounds -- front frame rails bent out. Kahr fixed it for free, but it took over two months. They admitted to me they've had a batch of bad frames, and said the replacement batch failed inspection so that's why it took so long to get my gun fixed. Replacement worked fine for ~125 rounds when I shot it last weekend.

If you don't think the extra 8 oz will matter, put 26 oz. of fishing wights in your pocket and walk around with it for a day or two, then repeat with 18 oz.

My mistake!!!

Looked back at my notes...
$350 was not the correct number....$430 is.
Sorry for the unwarranted excitement.
For a K9, even $430 sounds like a good price, though....I hope to go check it out this week.

I was suprised how many people seem to detest DAO in general and Kahr's in particular (see the "guns I just can't get into thread"). I think I'll stir up some trouble and start a new thread on the autoloaders forum, asking WHY folks like/dislike DAO.
