For reasons completely unknown, I have a curious interest in top-break revolvers. There are plenty of models from yesteryear available. Webley's, Smiths, H&Rs, etc., etc.

I'm just curious, is there any current, production, top-break revolver currently made or imported into the States? I know there is a .32 S&W Long IOF made in India. I vaguely recall a Russian .357 that is top-break type revolver being made. Neither, as far as I know, are being imported.

Anyway, just wondering. Thanks.

Be sure to visit the link, http://www.uberti.com/firearms/top-break.php, and scroll down for a complete list of models.

a few years ago, Beretta (the company who owns Uberti), also has one introduced as "Laramie", with .38 SPL and .45 LC calibers. It is an Uberti with Beretta's name on there. The price is about the same as Uberti's. However, it's no longer available from Beretta.

Ahhhhh, that one totally slipped my mind. Those are quite the beauties. Thanks.

http://www.taylorsfirearmsstore.com/russian.htm one of the Uberti Importers.

I have the #0855 5" .45 one, great little pistol, have a few thousand rounds down it's pipe, but I baby the holy heck out of the thing with soft loads.

Great conversation starters, reasonably accurate within 50', but not tack drivers, I CCW mine at times when the mood strikes me, loaded with 225gr Silvertips.

Very nice. Is the hammer hard to reach for thump cocking? I vaguely remember someone mentioning that to me.

Thanx.

Depends on if you have big hands. It's quite a reach for some folks. It's perfect for me, but I can palm a basketball, (which is where my Basketball skill Ends ;) )

It is a bit easier to reach on the upswing of the recoil impulse, One-handed at speed I cock the hammer by leveling the gun from the previous shot. Just rolls in the hand comfortably.

I suggest tracking one down at a gun show or LGS if you're really worried about the reach.

Thanks for the info. I've got big hands so perhaps its no worries. I wills say, there is something so unbelievably classic about that design.

I bought mine out of love, as my first .45 colt revolver. In a very rare break from my usual "function before form" mantra. (and just before the prices jumped)

It forced me into reloading, saving me considerable amounts of money (and getting me to the range far more often) Max loads of Trail boss are the usual feed, SWC 250's and Berry's. Frame is still nice and tight.

Don't forget to keep an empty chamber under the full-fledged hammer. I use speedloaders but empty the gun immediately, never carry with 6.

Only last month bought a Blackhawk for more "serious" work.

How about a new top break double action revolver chambered in .45 ACP using full moon clips? How fast would that be in the IDPA revolver division?

Owen Sparks it sounds like you've been looking into my idea book for that one (Though it would be nice to shoot .45 long colt and .45 acp in a top break)

A revolver version of the M-1 Garand if you will

Man, I know how you feel - something about top-breaks does it for me too. I think It was when Indianna Jones pulled out his Webley in The Last Crusade and it was empty ... that did it for me ... I was hooked on revolvers forever, and have wanted a top-break ever since. One of these days I will get my hands on a Webley...To date, it remains one of the few historical firearms that I haven't handled/shot! :cuss:

Lord knows I'd be tripping over myself to buy one. ;)
