Im looking at scopes right now trying to decide what I want. I have a range between 700-750. Maybe 800 if its worth it. I can get a 2.5-10 PST FFP for 700 or a 4-16 PST FFP for 850 from my dealer. He has a used HSLR 4-16 FFP and I like the XLR reticle for quick hold over.

This is 7 times the amount I have ever spent on a scope. I grew up using minimal guns. Dad just didn't care as long as it shot a bullet out the end and could kill a deer at 100 yards. Now, Im building a 1500-2000 dollar rifle setup (with scope) which is still more than Ive ever spent on any one weapon. Being 18, thats a good chunk of change, but thats why I work :). Buy once, cry once!

Reason Im having such a hard time deciding is I need FFP for sure for quick shots at say 400-600 yards on deer IF i am confident that I can put that bullet where I want it. Maybe never, and ill keep it under 400. However, I also want to be able to practice at 1000. Biggest issues I see are with an HSLR, I only have .5 moa adjustment vertical which is ok as long as the reticle is good enough for holding. I kind of like the capped windage to prevent being bumped. Otherwise, I may just drop the 850 on the PST 4-16 so I have the extra magnification for 1000 yard papers.

What kind of rifle? I have bothe the 2.5-10x32 FFP PST and the 4-16x50 FFP PST...because the 2.5-10 came out 6 months after I got the 4-16, and the 4-16 was really too much scope for the semiauto .308 I had it on. But it would be a perfect fit for the heavy barreled 7mm I have my eye on next...

Oh and by the way, check out Liberty Optics before you buy...I've ordered a couple scopes from Scott, he's always treated me right. If you mention you're on the Highroad, you may get a discount, not sure if it's still an official discount forum for him or if I got my discount for repeat business, but even without a discount, his prices on vortex stuff are in line with MMAP and I've never been charged shipping. Tell him I sent you.... lol

Im building a heavy .308 off a savage action. Ive used 4-16 for hunting in the woods and Im good enough with instinctive shooting I dont need a large view picture so magnification is not a problem. I was really eyeing that 2.5-10, but I think I may go ahead and kick that out as well as the HSLR. Problem with the HSLR is the thin crosshairs that are hard to see in low light without a illuminated reticle. I would love the 2.5-10 on a hunting only rifle, but its just not quite what I want I dont think for long range stuff. Ill go check them out sometime and decide then I guess. Buy once cry once.
