"I think the state should throw the book at him," said Wendy Keefover-Ring of Sinapu, an organization that tries to protect native wildlife.

What a spaz. I don't mind being extra careful becuase there's a dog-eating lion in your area, but if the thing kills my dog and comes after me... it's the only reponsible thing to do.

"...that's not how we do things in Colorado," Keefover-Ring said.
$10 says Ms. Keefover-Ring is a California transplant that doesn't know squat about how things are done in Colorado.

And typical of the idiots at the Denver channel, they sub titled it Charges Possible In Boulder County Shooting when NONE of the authorities sound like they're considering charges ... just some moonbat environazi with no real power.

Checkout the moonbats site http://www.sinapu.org/

I love how they're accusing him of "baiting" the mountain lions ... so if Ms. Keefover-Ring were to wear a short skirt and get raped I guess she deserved it for "baiting" the rapists?

ok, one more

We have similar things happening here in Florida.. Except they are alligators.

One thing is for certain, it would take a hell of a fence to keep a cat like that out of your yard... a 4' Chainlink fence wouldn't do it I would suspect.

Why did the guy report it??.. If it were me, I would have shot it, buried it, and my poor pets too, and moved on, with nary a whimper to anyone outside of m home.

Please don't condeme all of Boulder- normal people live there too...

This happened just a few miles south of where my parents live and where I grew-up. We have had many encounters with cats over the past 20 years, the most exciting one ending with my dad sending a .357 Mag. 158 gr. Gold Dot into the tree 3 ft. above the stalking cat's head (long story...)

The cat in this current story was definiely bad news. His next victim could easily have been a child. People and cats can coexist peacefully most of the time, but every once in a while, a cat needs to be put down.

Definitley not the smartest thing to do leaving dogs tied-up outside with no covered kennel, but not criminal either.

that's not how we do things in Colorado," Keefover-Ring said. "We have rules of law. You don't bait animals, you don't shoot out of season

Far as I am concerned, if it comes on my property, I'll kill it if I so desire or if it is necessary. Laws and environmentalists be damned. My family's safety comes above everything else.

Course, I prefer the shoot, shovel, shutup method.

Low road, sir. Suggest you edit your post. :fire:

jlbraun, you're right, reading that as a statement sounds like an endorsement of her rape ... a question mark at the end of the sentence puts it more in the context I had intended (that being that "blame the victim" is wrong, regardless of what kind of victim we're talking about here).

Not to step out of line here, but I fail to see the problem with the (albeit low) rape statement, it's still the same type of hypocricy we're seeing here with the cougar incident.

If theres one thing we see as an example in this news post here it's that people do need to learn to be a bit more tolerant over trivial things like words. He's insulted no'one here, and if anyone does take offense to it, they really need to learn to handle it lol

Like momma always told me, live ain't fair. Deal with it.

(Sorry if I derailed anything, it just irks me when I see people lose cool over words)

id shoot it just because it was on the property, then id go and hide it in misses Wendy Keefover-Ring's car

How did the govt get involved in this?

Surely they weren't crazy enough to call them after the shooting? Why would you want to involve law inforcement in this...at ALL?

Shoot. Shovel. Shut up.

One more thing- be sure to check for tracking collars and chips should you end following the SSS principle.

@Zund

"blame the victim" is wrong, regardless of what kind of victim we're talking about here

Then you should just say that then. Your rape analogy is out of line.

"Why did the guy report it??.. If it were me, I would have shot it, buried it, and my poor pets too, and moved on, with nary a whimper to anyone outside of m home."

10-4 on that. The desire to jump up and shout lookee what I did should be avoided when firearms are involved.

.

What if it were a deranged man instead of a cat ?

Would the morons still have a problem?

Tallpine wisecracked:

"Cougars..? Nope, I haven't seen any cougars," he said as he leaned on his shovel. "What do they look like?"

Took me another read to "get" that one. I'm slowing down in my old age.

Prosecute the Lion Killer
Posted on October 9, 2007 by Rob Edward
Boulder, CO. Sinapu has called upon the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Colorado Department of Agriculture to charge Jeremy Kocar with the killing of a mountain lion and with cruelty to animals after he baited the lion with his two dogs, which were chained outdoors–in mountain lion habitat—without the protection of a covered kennel.

Kocar told the Boulder Daily Camera, “‘I’m from Wisconsin – and we take care of things there.’”

“Kocar’s Wisconsin-style vigilante justice won’t fly here,” warned Wendy Keefover-Ring, Director of Sinapu’s Carnivore Protection Program.

“Colorado’s laws do not allow for people to bait wildlife, to shoot out of season, to shoot without a license, and to kill for purposes of protecting pets. The State’s animal cruelty statute is also clear about housing animals in a manner that does not lead to “serious physical harm,” said Keefover-Ring.

“We hope the State makes an example of Kocar and hits him with the full force of the law,” Keefover-Ring added.

Editor’s Note: Comments on this post, and on this subject have been disabled. Although there were several thoughtful posts on both sides of the debate, several people, posting under false names and email addresses, chose to make personal, vitriolic attacks against Sinapu and our staff. The bottom line is that we are a public advocacy organization with a keen interest in raising public awareness about stewardship of wildlife. The needless death of this mountain lion raises serious questions about our responsibility to be thoughtful stewards of wild and domestic creatures. If you disagree, that’s your right, but that doesn’t make you right. Moreover, if you cannot express your differences in a civil and respectful manner, then take it elsewhere.

heh, he should have allowed himself to get eaten instead, then everyone would be calm.....no no no no, i did not mean that seriously

also for some reason this makes me think about the tremor movies

"Now if you would kindly lean your endagered carcass over my property line, we can just call your untimely death...self defence"

If charged, ask for a jury trial. I don't see any jury voting unamiously to convict someone for a defensive shooting like this.

A friend of mine moved to idaho a couple of years ago. he lives on a mountainside and sees cats pretty regularly. No one in that area thinks they are cute, and no one in those hills goes walking outside without being armed. normally a 12 gauge.

Churchill said. "So it's really crucial that people put their pets way at night."

I supposed that children are not to be allowed outside to play in their own backyard after dark either.
