DeerCreek Rifle range?

I am planning on visiting deercreek rifle range sometime in the next week or so.

I drove by the delaware wildlife range on Wedneday, 3/28, and it was closed due to high water. I drove by the deercreek range Tuesday, 3/27 and it appeared to be dry, though I stopped by after it had closed so all I could see was from the gate at the entranceway.

I have a Mosin Nagant I have been cleaning up that I have never shot, I also just put a scope on a 9mm carbine and need to get it zeroed. I also have a .22 Marlin 780 clone, (Sears) and my trusty 7.62x39 Yugo SKS. I would probably only bring the carbine and the Mosin Nagant, or maybe just the carbine as I want to try the electolysis cleaning trick with the Mosin a few more times to get some more of the deep carbon deposits out of the barrel.

I live in Columbus and I actually have weekends off this shift rotation. The PRO gun show is this coming weekend, 3/31 and 4/1, so I am not sure how that will affect my schedule as I would like to stop by there either Saturday or Sunday.

If someone is interested in possibly driving to deercreek on Saturday or Sunday leave a post.

If you have never been to deercreek rifle range the easiest way to get there is south on 71 until you get to state route 56. Take south/east state route 56 to Mt. Stearling. Go south on state route 62 to where 207 branches off to the east. The rifle range is on Yankeetown road. The range is located north of 207 and west of Yankeetown road which it is off of. The maps at the DNR shows it fairly clearly.

I live on the east side so deercreek is about the same distance away as delaware.

I plan on going to that show on Sunday. A co-worker and her husband are going to be their. I took them to the Powder Room last Sunday and they had a good time. Their first time to hold or shoot a gun. Now they want to buy some. Two more turned from the dark side. We are talking about a trip to Deer Creek so they can try rifle shooting.

I just got back from shooting old computer #2 :D AKs, .357s, and a Mosin = not much left afterward...

Found a friend of a friend that has a huge piece of property to shoot on, but it's 40 minutes from me. Apparently these folks like stuff that blows up because I saw propane tanks and fire extinguishers amongst the debris...

I'm still interested, particularly at Swingset's range that is apparently 5 whole minutes from me... ;) More warning is better for me too.

Looking forward to the ground drying out...

I live in columbus right near westland mall and plan on going to my first gun show. I just recently got into firearms as a hobby and can't wait to extend my collection, but i would definilty be interested in a highroad gathering.

Currently i drive all the way to new albany shooting range to shoot and have no where to shoot outdoors.

I live in Marysville OH, and normally shoot at Blackwing in Delaware, but I would really like to take part in a THR group shoot nearby. BTW, I share my ammo untill I run out, but I share my irons untill I gotta go home.

I'd love to find a place outdoors to shoot!

I'm planning on heading to the PRO show this Sunday, then next Sunday, heading out to Vinton Co. to do some shooting on some relatives land.

I'd be up for a THR shoot:)

Deercreek sucks, as does New Albany Shooting Range. Ohio Valley outdoors on Rt. 33 in Lancaster is decent, I enjoy shooting there. Only one bad experience, and that was becuase it must have been 110F on the range, and they wouldn't let me move to a cooler room. I let my membership lapse after that, but they do allow FA firing, which is handy;)

I'm in the Columbus area (Gahanna actually) and as a kid, I did all my shooting outdoors. I've always respected Property owners land and pics up my mess afterwards. I'd love to get together with a few of you guys for an afternoon of shooting and trying out each others toys. My son is 17 and hasd be trained at anearly age the value of gun safety, but it gets old shooting indoors at the NASR we have a membership too.

Swingset please let me know if you have a weekend free to shoot. I'll bring plenty of ammo and targets and we'll have a "blast"

All right, who is going to step up and plan this little shindig?

We need a date, and a place.

Ok, I've finally gotten around to making some plans and setting up a date for a shoot at my place.

The weekend of May 19th (Saturday), here on my range near Granville Ohio, let's do a THR Central Ohio shoot.

So, here's the details!!

My range is a lot of fun, and I welcome Ohio THR members to come and enjoy the place with me, but since my range is a private one and on private property, I only ask that you RSVP me by sending email to me at [email protected] and letting me know you plan on coming. I will respond with directions and all pertinent info. I am not opposed to guests, but keep it to one or two plz and make absolute sure that they are safe & respectful. YOU will be reponsible for who you bring, and I won't hesitate to ask unruly or unsafe shooters to leave. I don't mean to come off as a hardass, but there can be no leeway with this being family property. Too much to risk.

I run an organized but relaxed range and I go by "Big Boy Rules". You are assumed to be safe and responsible, and aside from common range commands and etiquette you'll have the freedom to have fun. Just don't give me reason to correct you. As for children, they are welcome to come but please keep an eye on them at ALL times. Common sense applies.

The range has pistol and rifle armor targets that can be engaged from the firing line from 25 to 200 yards, places to put clays, cheap soda cans and other perishable targets. No junk tho please....glass, trash, etc. Believe it or not, it's a rather pretty range. You won't have a lack of things to shoot at, trust me.

There are only two small conditions for coming. One, I have a blanket indemnity form (waiver) for all guests. Absolves me of responsibility for accidents, injuries, etc. Second, there will be a donation jar set out to help cover the cost of cleanup and armor replacement (they do get hammered!). Donate what you can, I won't put a price on it. Just help out and I appreciate it greatly.

If we have time, and you're interested, there's an "action course" with knock-down steel plates that we can run too....but it requires that the main line go cold during the running of it, so if it's more BS'ing and plinking, that's cool too. I'll let the peanut gallery decide.

On the off chance the range is wet or muddy, it can be difficult to drive through the path to the range with anything but a serious 4wd, so in the interest of not tearing the range and my yard to shreds, I will bump the shoot to the following weekend if it's nasty out. That's another reason I ask that you RSVP me so that I have everyone's email for keeping you up to date in case of horrible weather. Hopefully, that's not an issue.

One last thing....the range is set in the middle of the woods, and facilities are spartan. I will gladly give rides to the house if anyone needs restroom or the like, and you're always welcome to water the wildlife, but be aware that it's a long walk to the house so if you have a bladder like my wife does, speak up!

Sorry for being long winded, hope this all works out and I'm glad to host it and meet some THR folks in person!

Nice:cool:

There is the machine gun shoot on May 5th in Rushville (me old stomping grounds!) and then the THR shoot on the 19th..... good thing I bought some ammo when it was on sale:rolleyes: :D

I look forward to the shoot, and will be sending my email shortly!

WOW! Very generous of you to arrange that shoot. Too bad I work on Saturdays. :banghead: If by some miracle I can get it off I would like to join in. I'll RSVP if I can get it off.

10 days before the shoot bump.

Us Ohio THR members need to put together a good showing for this.

I am going to be there with my M1 Garand, Mosin 91/30, Marlin 60, SKS, and myAk-47. Anyone who is interested in trying any of those out come on down, I will have a decent amount of ammo for each.

Dadblame it!

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'm giggin' in Myrtle Beach that whole week.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't be whining but I'd really rather be a part of this get-together than beating on drums while the sun beats on me.

Have fun, you guys. And please, lots of pix!

Doesn't appear to be that many guys interested in coming, just a handful so far....but fear not I'll be on the range shooting if I'm the only one!

AR15.com spoiled me. Tell that bunch your range is open and you'll get 50 guys on the firing line before you know it.

Come on Ohio THR guys, don't weenie out on me!

I would attend but I will be celebrating my two nieces' and my birthday (all three birthdays span 16 days in May) that day. Take them out shopping, buy them what they want and eat at a restaurant with their parrents (and brother) and my parents/their grandparents. (I'll throw in something for the nephew.)

Wish I could join you but we have a wedding in the Chicago area to attend on the 19th. Maybe next time. If you need some help with logistics the next shoot let me know and I will do whatever I can. Email sent.

Is this still on for 5/19? Is there a start & end time?

Still on!! There's no official time, I'll be here all day, but in general I'd say anywhere from 10am to 6pm would be the window of shooting.

For those coming, you have my info which gave you my addy and my phone # is on there too. If you have any trouble finding the place, just give me a call on my cell. The range is back on the back of the property, so when you get here if no one's by the house you can come on back the lane. It's narrow so if you're driving a car you don't want dirty or a scratch from a briar on it, call me on my phone or walk back and I'll buzz up and shuttle your gear back in my truck.

It's supposed to be gorgeous this weekend, so I look forward to meeting some new THR friends and having fun!! It's a cool range, I promise! :D
