I knew I should have printed it out, but on one of the many gunboards I visit, someone had a rather nice cover letter to be sent along with a copy of your C&R license to the dealer.

Anyone know where its at or have a copy??

Here you go:

Dear Sirs:

Please find enclosed a signed copy of my Type 03 Curio and Relics Federal Firearms License. Please keep this on file so that we may do business in the future. Also, if you would send me a copy of your latest catalogue or sales flyer and place me on the mailing list for same, I would be most appreciative. With kindest regards, I remain,

Very truly yours

I'm with Chipperman here. I wouldn't waste a lot of time on a cover letter that's just going to end up in the can anyway.

I think it's a good idea to enclose a cover letter to state you intent. Otherwise what is the dealer going to think on the other end about receiving your envelope with just the license inside? The dealer may think the obvious that it's someone new wanting to have their license on file. Or they may think you are trying to complete a transaction and the license will do that. Or if they think you want to be kept on file do you want a catalogue? Some people don't like junk mail and shop online, so does this new license mean the person does or doesn't want a catalogue? And if you are online, and many of the dealers are now too, the license doesn't have an e-mail address for the dealer to send their e-mail flyers to.

Be smart, send a brief note with your license and tell the dealer what your intent is with sending your license. It will probably save time on their end so they can spend more time filling our orders. ;)

" Otherwise what is the dealer going to think on the other end about receiving your envelope with just the license inside? "

Don't worry about that. The dealers who do business with C&R holders get dozens of license copies a day. They know what to do with them.

I allways just send a note saying please place on file, and please send me your latest catolog. It has allways worked for me.

I just send it in, no cover letter. They'll figure it out.
