Each Friday afternoon, Sat., and Sun., my local gun store (DFW suburb) is packed to the gills with people waiting on a shooting lane (indoor only) and many folks checking out the new guns looking for their first purchase. I guess I am just amazed at how many people are looking to buy their first handgun - and who are taken back at the wide range of choices (revolvers, 1911s, polymers, etc). Basically a lot of folks with no prior experience with a gun of any type whatsoever and not really sure what they plan to do with the gun. Also, there is young and old alike. I guess I am also surprised to see so many Y-Generation college kids out looking for a gun, male and female.

What is driving this heightened interest do you think? It seems to have picked up even more in the last 4 months compared to a year ago. Is it , Obama/anti-gunners, terrorism, tragedies like happened at Virginia Tech, all the above and more.

What is going on in your part of the country?

Not sure about the LGS's, but I work for a local law enforcement agency and our public fingerprinting, which used to run 80% for "everything else", and 20% for CCW is now running about 50/50.

I live in the DFW Metromess also, and it has been my experience that pretty much every indoor range in the area is packed on the weekends, and Obama, aka The Greatest Gun Salesman In The World, has increased the traffic even more in both the stores and the ranges. It is good to see more people taking up firearms and refusing to be victims of violent crime.

I don't go to ranges ran as a commercial business. I go too often and it'd be too expensive.

At the club today we probably saw 60 people come and go. I know a few of them there today were new shooters. I brought a gal along with me for her first visit. She is a another former Marine in my shop. She doesn't own a firearm, but has been interested in getting one. She had a great time.

Our club ranks have grown considerably in the past 18 months. We have been voting in over a dozen new members, and sometimes well over 2 dozen every month for well over a year now.
