Anyone here have a CT non res CCW? From looking at packing.org, it does not seem hard to get. I may be travaling to CT once per month from MA. Some "real world" experience from anyone who has gotten a CT non res would be helpful. Hints, problems, suggestions? How long did it take?

Thanx

PS, I have NH, ME, NV, UT, and FL non res with MA is my primary CCW res.

IIRC, ALL ccw's originate at town level. Then, submitted to Meriden (DPS) for state-wide issuance. Seems ya gotta find a local cleo to approve his local town's issuance first. (My res. ccw was still valid after I left, but "they" neglected to send me renewal to my out-of-state location (required update) and it expired. Inquired and was told to start all over again.......:cuss: maybe they don't like non-res permits:( )

Does this mean you have to name a town/city you plan to visit or something? If you don't live there, how do you pick a town/city? I called and ordered an app. All the other non res CCWs I have are state level it seems.

I am pretty sure if you are a non-res you can apply directly to Dept of Public Safety... Packing.org should have that info!

Yes, from the packing.org site, it looks as you say: apply direct to the DPS.

willbrink, it's been several years since I communicated with their DPS, and things may have changed. Otherwise, the state-wide ccw is issued on the authority of the local town ccw....ONLY! At that time, that was the traditional, usual method to obtain. HAD to start at town level. (approved by local cleo; including interview...)

Citizen- I never had to interview. I walked into the Stamford PD straight from my permit class, got finger printed, and the prints went out to the FBI immediately.

This was the summer before last, when i turned 21. I even asked the cop if there was any chance that I would be turned down because of my age. he told me that as long as there was nothing on my record that LEGALLY would prevent me from having a gun, there is no reason why the local ranking cop should deny my application.

no need for non-residents to pick up a form at a local level. call SP and ask for an app.

*Application for State Permit to Carry Pistol and Revolvers Can be obtained at one of the Pistol Permit locations listed on the instruction sheet DPS-769-C or you can call (860) 685-8290 to have an application sent to you. This form is not available online.

you'll have no problems getting it. fewer off-limits restrictions than Mass. keep in mind the requirement to update your address ASAP if you move - else you risk committing a felony crime.

........just glad it's gotten better; easier. Been nearly two decades since residence. Good luck!

I've had mine since 2004. I found the process easy enough, but I'm used to dealing with Massachusetts. None of my references were called.

call the department of public safety. they can answer all your questions. I am 99% sure that if you have an out of state ccw you can go there with the proper forms and $ and leave with your non-res ccw. Definitely call first to avoid an unnecessary trip.

I am from Illinois with no CCW, but have Utah, Fla. and a couple others including Connecuit. I applied and got the Conn. last fall, no problems, no hassles, just do the paperwork and send the money. Another good place for info is www.handgunlaw.us. Jim.
