Hi THR community, my first post.

I wanted to find out the current value of new productions of Browning Hi Powers. I seen one at my LGS for $1,000 fixed sights (they are willing to sell for $900). They only have one left, its been on the shelve for 2 weeks since I last saw it (I'm assuming that the price is too high).

Whats the rate at your LGS for BHPs?

Thanks in advance.

The last couple new ones I've seen were about $920 and $970 respectively.

Go buy it tomorrow

Strongly suggest you go buy it tomorrow. You won't regret it. There is a reason why the Browning Hi-Power has a cult following. With the current, continuing run on guns generally, new ones are hard to find. The price is not out of line for a new BHP.

Geez, nine fiddy for a new Browning!?!
Not feeling too bad now for buying my FEG for $275 and adding $150 worth of new Browning internals.

Probably too late, but here's my $.02....

Do you have to have a new one? Is it to be a safe queen? As much as I like BHPs (my first pistol from my father and a couple more since then), I think new ones are overpriced, especially if it is the black coating and not a true HP blue. Blue HPs are a work of art if you want to look for a T or C series.

Look on Gunbroker for an Israeli one. There are a few with the original finish. Some have criticized the refinished ones, but for the price of one, you could have it stripped and reblued and probably still come out ahead of a new one.

Looking for a .40? Here's one for $600 if you happen to be in NC (not an endorsement, just an example of what's out there).

Of course, local prices depend on where you are, but it's safe to say there are plenty of HPs out there if you look around.

$900 to $1,000 is the going rate for a new Browning Hi-Power. For those guys that think current Hi-Power pricing is out of line, you've either spent too much time with polymer guns or you're still living in the 1970's.

Colt 1911's cost around $1,000, SIG P-Series guns cost around $900, and the Browning Hi-Power is right in that range. That's what metal guns cost, at least those made in the US or western Europe.

If you are a collector, there certainly is some reason for a T or C series, but if you want to shoot the heck out of the thing, the current MK III is a better option.

Interesting Opinions there JTQ:

30 seconds later I'm looking at a NIB 9mm HP online, delivered for $851. A Colt GI 1911 delivered for $896, and SIG P series steel guns in the $500-700 range.

Interesting price markets we have, eh?

You certainly are finding some great deals on new guns. Especially $500 for a metal framed SIG P-Series.

SIG P226 at Top Gun Supply http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sauer-p226/

Colt http://www.topgunsupply.com/colt-handguns/

These prices are similar to my local prices.

Exceptions and great deals notwithstanding, prices in general around here (Southwest IL/St Louis Metro) are in line with what JTQ reports.

New Hi Powers are rare enough would I really pass on one I wanted because it was $950 instead of the $850 I would prefer for a pistol I would hope to keep the rest of my life? I know my answer.

I think I would buy a older T-Series, it being an all Belgium and all. FYI, I will be listing a BHP lite weight in the classifieds either tonite or tomorrow.

I kicked around the idea of buying a 1980 version of the HP for a few weeks for 700. My hands don't fit the grip well and hammer bite makes for a bad shooting experience. I looked a little more and settled on a CZ75.

In my opinion, Browning would be proud of such a good design.

LOL!

Exceptions and great deals?

I'm looking at ONE online hi volume retailer, and their prices are not exceptions: they are "normal".

Sit in the parking lot of a gun show going on, and take a tally of the people coming out empty-handed vs. those who bought a firearm. Just do it for about 30 minutes.

The vast majority come out empty-handed, as the vendors have ruined the pricing fix, to of course favor the sellers and take advantage of the uninformed. Betting on the "excitement of the moment" to ask MSRP for used firearms?! Good lord...

However, their sales are WAY down as I can go online and receive above deals, shipped for less than $6 and just about everyone else knows this too.

Top Gun Supply? Google " Best SIG P226 Price" ....just copy/paste what I wrote there, and tell me if TGS comes up! :D

In my local pistol club is an excellent FFL who charges very little for club members, to do transfers. Find a local guy like that and you're saving enough to do A LOT more shooting, or join an extra club, or buy an NRA LIFEtime membership!

Powder, I'm not sure I agree with you on "normal" pricing, but you are spot on about the gun shows.

OK, I'll do that.

Were these the two sites you wanted me to find?

GunBroker http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=Sig+Sauer+P226&Condition=1

GunsAmerica http://www.gunsamerica.com/Search/Category/1403/3/Guns/Pistols/Sig-Sauer-Sigarms-Pistols/P226.htm

Looking through both of those listings, it still looks like SIG P-Series guns are closer to what I said

However, if you are finding them cheaper somewhere else, that's certainly great for you. Keep up the good work.

"Find a local guy like that and you're saving enough to do A LOT more shooting"

Some of us don't have to pinch pennies to do a lot more shooting. We don't have to take the gun they send us either - we get to see and handle the gun we're buying before we hand over the cash. All guns are not the same, even with consecutive serial numbers.

Sit outside a gun show and look at people for 30 minutes? Good grief, what a waste of time. Oh look, another dirty big guy in camo. :)

Perhaps there is some confusion with the issue. The OP's questions revolved around

current value of new productions of Browning Hi Powers.
and
Whats the rate at your LGS for BHPs?

However, some comments have been
ask MSRP for used firearms
my FEG for $275
Look on Gunbroker for an Israeli one.
I'm looking at ONE online hi volume retailer
Perhaps not all of us are answering the OP's question.

LOL. Now that's funny. :D

JTQ, you are correct, which is why I prefaced my reply as an opinion.

Many people get so fixated on "I have to have it now--there's only one left" (myself included at times unfortunately), that they don't take the time to look at all available options. I wanted to provide some options for hellishot that he might not have considered.

I cringe at recommending to someone, even someone I've never met, to go out and spend $900-1000 on a pistol when he could find the same thing at a lower price that will do just as well with a little looking around.
