From the Browning web site:

"No longer in production. The Hi-Power is one of John Moses Browning’s finest designs. And although it is possible to still find Hi-Power pistols at dealers across the U.S., the Hi-Power is technically out of production. Current dealer inventories will be the last available from Browning for the foreseable future."

This was discussed a few months back I believe, but at the time the pistol was still being manufactured. If this is common knowledge now, sorry if I re-posted!

Yes they finally updated the website but it has been out of production for about 9 months give or take.

yeah...I had high hopes that tisas would bring over the zig 14 (stainless HP clone) but they abandoned it in favor of producing more mp5 clones. :(
I hope I'm wrong, but I think with browning and tisas dropping the HP, nobody is making it any more.

So do we now wait for the inevitable -- every American handgunner will realize he/she absolutely now must have a Hi-Power, and demand drives the prices of used specimens to ridiculous levels, such as what we see with the older Colt and S&W revolvers?

Old news.
People just refused to believe it, and at the time I was advising about it, the gun was NOT still in production.

I blame these dang kids and their desire for those new fangled plasticky pistols

Me, I blame the pricepoint. I purchased my High Power close to twenty years ago and was astounded to see the current price for them. But then, I bought a lot of my guns during a surplus glut and a lot of the prices astound me.

Buy now while there are still plenty of surplus originals and clones for sale cheap.

While the price point did probably keep folks away from them in this era of $500 polymer pistols, the Hi-Power was priced competitively with other metal framed guns such as US Made 1911's and SIG's, etc.

Ask and you shall receive. The Regent BR9 is being produced and imported. They have a cerakote and a stainless model. The Cerakote starts at about $450 + $35 shipping plus transfer costs.

At the time you had no proof that production ceased. Those who follow the BHP know that the gun has according to the internet and rumor died a thousand deaths. I cannot count the number of times the rumor that the BHP production had stopped made its way through the gun world grapevine.

Once people could confirm your info people believed it but honestly all your crying wolf getting tiresome. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. LOL

Cool. I might would look at getting a new one but I've never been willing to drop the amount of cash Browning wants for one.

I've already got an older Israeli surplus FN "real" Hi-Power but it's certainly not a show-piece. I've considered sending it off to Jim Garthwaite to have some basic stuff done (Heinie sights, trigger job, and reblue).

WV,
I posted quotes direct from Browning at the time.
I stated that.
People still chose to disbelieve.

Quotes that could not be verified at the time. Once people could verify the claims people accepted it as the truth. You have been around the industry long enough to know that the rumor that the BHP was discontinued has made the rounds multiple times in the past 10 years. There were valid reasons for skepticism. I am not sure why you insist on crowing every time the topic comes up.

Yep, got my FEG 9HP, came back from Israel with a parkerized refinish. Mechanically sound and accurate. It isn't the gun I shoot best, and at times I've considered moving it, but I got it for a song, and now I'm definitely going to hold onto it.

There are plenty around. There was a wave of Kareen's within the last year, under $300. These guns seem to be 100% compatible with the Brownings/FN's, so they get you in the door.

WV,
Quite simple- I do my best to pass on valid info & dislike being called a liar. :)
This is all ancient history.
Browning got their last shipments of the Hi-Power early last year, and I'm correcting the statement made about the gun still being it production at the time Ayoob & I were saying it was dead.

In my case, I was passing that info along for the benefit of HP fans, so they'd have a heads up & buy one then, while new pistols were still in the pipeline, if they'd been holding off for whatever reason.
But, there were more people interested in rejecting the info than in following up on it.

Couldn't be confirmed?
How many people took five minutes to make a phone call, as opposed to those who took five minutes to post denials?

We can go round and round but at the time Browning would not confirm it over the phone. When the avg Joe called and got the avg CS rep they got a big "I don't know". I do not remember anyone calling you a liar. I think that is entirely in your own mind. I think some people on some boards questioned the source not knowing your back story and writings.

Here on THR people did not doubt you once you stated you confirmed that the BHP was discontinued with your marketing contact. People doubted Ayoobs nebulous statement in American Handgunner IIRC. If it is ancient history why do you keep bringing it up every chance you get.

Either way what is done is done. If you stop bringing it up so will I. FN discontinued the pistol and we have to make do with the hundreds of thousands of used gun already in the marketplace. What will we do. LOL

I didn't start this thread, I am correcting an erroneous statement in it.

I found a new production HP a few months ago. I really wanted it, but the tag said $999.99. So I handed it back. I don't have a grand to drop on one.

No idea if that price was out of line either.

Great to know those exist. Looks like they are tisas guns, so I don't know how many they will have, but if I can get a stainless for $500, that is tempting.

Interesting. I wonder if the parts will be interchangeable.

From the reports I have read the barrel lugs are different and they have a one piece barrel. Barrels will not swap and therefore slides will not swap. No one to my knowledge has attempted to swap fire control or safeties. I am sure someone will eventually try it.
