Saw a cva hawken for sale on gun broker. Is that a good brand? Safe? I have never shot balk powder before . Is there a forum for brand info? thanks

Never liked CVA until the nation went nuts over in-lines. Now I love all side lock muzzleloaders.

CVA rifles 30 years ago would shoot plumb center. Don't know about now.

They were good rifles, though I (somewhat foolishly) tended to look down my nose at them, favoring TCs and even Lymans over CVAs. Thing is, I built up a mess of CVAs for friends, and those rifles are still running today.

For the money, the best deal out there. Actually as good as most anything out there regardless of price. Have been deer hunting with a .54 Hawken for a couple of years. Will hit the kill zone in a whitetail at 90-100 yards if I do my part. Have a .45 Kentucky that I built from a kit in the '70's. Also very accurate. Have a .50 Express. It will keep both barrels in an 8" circle at 90 yards. If the bore is good they will be accurate.

Before you buy consider handling one, for me all the traditional CVA's (Hawken, Frontier, Mountain) have a length of pull (LOP) that is too short for me, the T-C's fit better, the Lyman GPR fits me best of all.
