Dumb question. I picked up a set of factory CZ wood grips for my '75 and found a set of torx head screws for them on Ebay.

Got it all installed and find that my magazine binds if I tighten the screws down too far, but if I back off on them a bit, the grips move around.

What should I do? I can't tell if it's actually the screws touching the mag or the grips themselves. If it's the screws I could put a washer under each one. Or if it's the inside of the grips should I sand them down a bit?

I'd just grind the screws down a schooch.
I find a grinding wheel works pretty well. Just take a little off at a time and check fitment as you go.

This, using the old screws as a length grind-to guide.

Ok I did some closer inspection. Took the grips off and put the screws in all the way and even then with them sticking inwards much further than normal they don't affect the magazine at all.

It appears it's the inside part of the wood grip that's rubbing and causing causing problems. I guess the easiest thing to do is just get out some sand paper and take off a bit of material.

Upon further investigation it turns out it wasn't the screws at all. I put them in and tightened them down without the grips on there and they didn't inerfere at all (actually they're on the other side of the flat spring from the magazine.)

These wood grips are just thicker on the inside and when tightened down that part was rubbing on the magazine. I sanded off a bit and tried again and it was much better. Took off a bit more and now the magazines pop right out as they should.

And after all this fooling around I realized that while I love the look of these nice Cocobolo grips, they're quite a bit thicker than the plastic ones and aren't a very good match for my small hands. :banghead:

For small hands, I enjoy the VZ grips on the CZ's. Tried the aluminum grips, like the VZ's better.

Most of the competition guys like the aluminum grips with skateboard tape panels. Definitely a different look than traditional wood!

I've got VZ ones on my Beretta and love them. Might think about going with them on the CZ as well.

As much as I love the classic look of nice wood grips, they usually end up making my guns too wide for me to enjoy using.

I put VZ grips on almost all of my CZ's. They are great. If you plan to carry it, go with the 'frag' pattern. The diamond pattern was a little too much rubbing up against me.
