Are these the same gun, but with out the rail? The reason I ask is CZ P01 had some changes the other CZ's don't. Such as the follow :

- A forged aircraft grade aluminum alloy frame
-- Re-contoured trigger for smoother, consistent trigger pulls

Any issues with the alloy frame, is it as good as the cast steel frame of the others?

P-01 vs 75D PCR...

Size/dimension wise they are basically identical guns (think the P-01 is an oz. or so heavier)... Regarding looks, the P-01 like the SP-01, has that 'squared-barrel' look, where the PCR has a 'mini' 75B look...
Shooting these guns, recoil is similar, however I feel that the P-01 (which I own) was MORE ACCURATE for ME!!!
If you're looking to buy one, the P-01 is CZs newest 'state-of-the-art' service pistol which has passed all of the rigorous NATO testing. For me, the P-01 has a perfect 'hand-fit' and is one of the most accurate pistols I have shot. I think the guns are very similar, and in the end, it's YOUR preference for looks and feel... either one is a great choice!

Sights are also different.

I find the P01 more refined. I am not sure why but I do.

In the end they are about the same thickness in the slide and conceal the same so the light rail is a bonus? Maybe for some in the end get the one you can secure the cheapest. Normally that is the PCR.

Different rear sight and PCR has a loaded chamber indicator.

Different rear slide serrations, different slide stop.

P01 has a cutout around the slide stop on the opposite side, and it doesn't protrude as much as the PCR.

The model number engraving on my P01 is crudely done compare to the PCR. The backstraps looks the same to me.

PCR has Novak style sights, cast alloy frame, and no rail. P01 has forged alloy frame, M3 rail, and standard CZ sights. Realistic differances? Zero. Have both, like both, carry the P01 because it shoots slightly better for me.

Are we sure the PCR has a cast frame? Would seem to me that it would be forged. Can anyone verify this?

Also it is strage they 2 people said the P01 shot better for them.

armoredman,

thanks for the info. i was thinking of goign with either the compact (looks thinner) or the RAMI (just like a mini 40b, lol). which of the two are thinner? i think i already can see the PCR being slimmer around the muzzle, which may be more comfortable around the thigh for IWB carry. what do you think?

Grimjaw, could it be that the PCR is a later version? I don't know, but it seems like the PCR you show has design differences which were changed/added and are more in tune with today's current design trends (like them or not).

seed, I don't know. I have no use for an LCI, since I'd check the chamber regardless.

My groups with both pistols are about the same.

The PCR and P01 carry the same, when I am using the old Bianchi rig. :) I never noticed any differance with the width of the muzzle being an issue. I also agree the slightly greater weight at the muzzle did seem keep itdown just a tiny bit better, but then again, a PCR I had a few years ago gave this two hand standing group.

How's that for muddying the waters? :) Yes, the taped holes were a previous group. :D

Yes, the PCR has had some subtle additions, like the LCI - my original did not have one, but my wife's '07 does.

thanks for the info. how is the size compared to the RAMI in terms of width? my only real gripe to the xd9sc is the width, which is why also have a kahr pm9 on my gun-to-ccw list.

it just sucks gun stores almost never have CZs in stock. if any, it's a beat 75b. :( i really want to see these in person.

if i was to get a P-01... it'd actually be a P-06, though i haven't done much research yet. after buying reloading equipment and stepping up involvement with uspsa, i don't have much room for adding a new carry yet unfortunately... and i already want to pick up some more 40b's (plural) before they're all gone. i'll keep carrying my xd9sc until then. hey, as long as it doesn't print and goes bang every time, right? :)

I own a P-01, and I can tell you it is VERY accurate. I have never fired a PCR, but the P-01 is a 'winner' in every way I can think of. It fits excellently in the hand, it is inherently accurate, it is reliable, and it just 'works'. I am a CZ 'fanboi'. LOL.

My PCR is as accurate as my full size 75B. I find the rail on the P-01 ludicrous for a carry gun. I prefer the Novak sights on the PCR also.

The P-01 is my favorite out of all of my 9's and I own seven, each by a different manufacturer. As others have mentioned, it has just the right grip design for my hand. The most important thing is that I am consistent with it, time after time. Really instills confidence. It also carrys right nicely and snug in an OWB Galco Concealable. Just a great gun, IMO.

P01 has a cutout around the slide stop on the opposite side, and it doesn't protrude as much as the PCR.

That is ridiculous, I hate the slide stop sticking way out on my PCR, it is the only thing I look at and sigh about. The rest of the gun is exactly what I want, but every time I see that silde stop button sticking way out from the frame I ask myself why it couldn't have been made like my USP. Would a slide stop from a P01 fit the PCR? it would probably require a tool to push out but the PCR already needs a magazine base to work.

That'd be great grimjaw, I have been mulling over the idea of grinding the end of the slide stop until it is close to flush. I have a Sig 229/228 holster that fits the PCR decently well (should have got the same thing but for the 239) except that the plate the belt clip is attached to interacts very poorly with the slide stop end.

Trying to Make a Decision on a CZ

I am going to order a CZ PCR or a CZ P-01. Here is my problem. I can't decide. As far a looks they are about equal. I kinda lean towards the P-01. I wont CC it daily but would like to carry in my car during day and store at night in safe.

It is my understanding that the p-01 is forged alloy and the PCR is not. I read that this would make the P-01 more durable in the long run. I don't plan on putting anything but 115 gr range bullets and occasionally 124 JHP. I dont see myself putting more than 50 to 100 rounds per month through the gun. Is durability a factor?

If not, I will probably go PCR and order it with custom CZ wood grips and night sights. The fact that the end of muzzle is thinner also appeals to me.

Anybody own both? If so are the basically the same gun except the rail?:D
