you say tomahto I say tomato

That's funny! I read all of my quotes you posted and I see negative comments sure but not one warning not to buy cz ever. Where do you get that? Go to dictionary.com and look up warning. It'll do you good.

A warning would be something like...

"Hey don't buy that. All they make is crap" Which I never said anything like that.

Your definition of a warning seems to be anything said that is even moderately negative. Why do we even have online forums. So people can only sit around and say wonderful things about guns? I don't think so.

According to your definition even you have given warnings off cz because you pointed out the weak spring issue. Not very flattering to cz.

Instead of you spending all your time trying to convince me that my experience with cz is something other than it has been why don't you use your pull to try and get my stuff sent to me.

These are cz's options as I see them.

They continue what they are doing and not send the parts, in which case I will continue to do what I am doing and share my experiences. And I will not buy another cz nor will I make a recommendation that anyone else do so.

or

They could send the parts and if it fixes the problem all I have to say is that the customer service is good but slow. And I may buy another one after I cool down from this a bit and shoot my properly functioning cz again.

or

They could send the parts and it does not fix the problem. I will then probably have to spend money to get it fixed if it can be. And then I will definitely be warning people off of buying cz's.

Or

I buy the parts, replace them myself. If it works, I just tell people that thier customer service sucks.

Walt,

do you realize that everytime you try to post and convince me that I am wrong you bring this thread back to the top. Making it that much more likely that someone will read about mine and others negative experiences with cz. You are hardly doing cz any favors here. If you really like them so much tell them to send my freakin parts already and we can put this all behind us.

From Formerly Known as "Overrated"

Now I am back in the fray. FTR, my reference to "apologists" refers to the fact that I encounter posts on many forums vigorously defending a certain weapon or manufacturer was a general observation, and not a specific reference to Walt. (But I am glad again to expand the vocabulary on this forum! ):)

READ MY LAST POST!!! Why is everyone so defensive? As I have learned, guns come in all kind of flavors, and people have different tastes.

This thread should wind down or be started again as "CZ is the Greatest" vs. "CZ is a Good Value" vs."CZ is Marginal" vs. "CZ is Crap".

Let's have a Poll!!!!

I've had a CZ P-01 for nearly two months. 800+ rounds, zero malfunctions of any kind. Good thing, too, since I've sort of grown used to perfection after 14 years of owning a Glock :neener:

Actually, every time I read this thread, I am reminded of how consistent, courteous, and rational some members are, and how others are....well, less so. A simple search here and on CZ Forums will yield an overwhelmingly positive view of CZ's pistols, including some positive feedback from me. CZ pistols, like any other pistols, like any other machines, are not perfect, but they're pretty damned good. Actually, my 75b and my P-01 have been perfect, and when I buy my SP-01, I have great confidence that it'll be just as good. But, hey, maybe we're ALL just lucky, eh? ;)

Daysleeperx, did you ever get the bugs worked out with your gun? How about a follow up on how it is running? Three CZ's here without a complaint. All info + and - welcome as the SP01 looks good to me. Will it's mags run in a 75?

Yep

SP01 mags will run in a 75B and 75B mags will run in an SP01.

There's a very large ammount of personal preference involved in firearms.

CZs fit me, have been very reliable, very very accurate, and are affordably priced. That's why I like them.

Hey Litlman;

Yeah I'll have an update up hopefully by tomorrow. I'm waiting for some springs to get here in the mail. Hopefully the results are good. =)

Sorry about the delay on the update...I meant to go to the range over the weekend, but it was closed for easter. =( Hopefully you'll be hearing from me later this week.

Just want to add to the positve comments about the SP01. I had a chance to shoot mine for the first time on Friday and it did not disappoint.

Interesting thread. What bothers me, to be blunt, is all of the guns that are fussy about the ammo that they are fed. Balogna I say.

I have some that are fussy as well. But here's the question... why do I have several very accurate. Very reliable. Very smooth handguns that will eat anything and everything I feed them without fail? Glocks eat ANYTHING. My HK's eat ANYTHING. Etc.

I can only attribute failures like this to poor design. A firearm should be able to eat anything it is fed within reason. Period.

If it does not, I dump it.

75 mag in SP 01

I use the 75 mags in a SP-01. As far as I can tell, there are a few minor problems related to this use .
a) when inserting the 18 round mag into the SP-01, it's enogh to give the mag a very light tap to be fully inserted. When you take the 16 round 75 mag and insert it, you have to hit the bottom of the mag rather hard to be sure the mag gets locked (?). I believe (but may be totally wrong) that inside the 75 mag there is not enough spare space. Same thing happens when you put 19 rounds in the 18 round SP-01 mag.
b) While using the 75 mag, the mag may not always drop completeley when pushing the mag release button. It sometimes ejects only halfwaw. I was told this problem can be solved by making the grips moore loose (loosening the scews).

Whatever, I am using the 75 mag in the SP-01 because they cost only half of the price of a SP-01 mag. Next time I am in the States I will buy 10 SP-01 mags just to get rid of this problem.

Thank you, Walter

Hmmmm. I also use some CZ-75 standard magazines in my SP-01, and have not encountered the problems you describe, so far as I can tell (mine drop free with no problem, and I don't think I'm slamming my mag changes too hard, but I do try to practice combat and tac reloads when at the range, so may be hitting them home harder than some). Mine are Mec-Gars -- by any chance are you using a different brand?

none of those issues with my SP01..using CZ factory 16rnd and MecGar 16rnd mags..all drop free..all seat easily when fully loaded to 16rnds.

Bought a CZ 75B about 3 months ago, from the papers in the box
in czech mostly, looks like it left the factory Jan. '08.
and yeah, they do come greasy out of he box but that's not a
Bad THing eh?

580 rds so far - several boxes of WWB 115 gr. FMJ, some Blazer, 115 gr.
FMJ, Remington 124 gr. FMJ WIn 147 gr. JHPs, Win SXT 147 gr. JHPs,
Speer Gold DOt 124 gr. Jhps....

100 % reliability no FTFs/FTEs.

I just ordered some Double Tap
124 gr. Speer Gold Dot @ 1,310 FPS
for $32/50 rds. much cheaper than the
20 rd per box Gold Dots or Win SXT off
the shelf of gun shops round these parts.

I have a CZ SP-01 Tactical and it runs fine. Only have about 350 rounds through it so far, but with everything factory...No extraction/feeding problems yet. New out of the box it had a little bit of metal speckles inside of the barrel and magazine well, but that was easily cleaned out. I just ordered a CZ SP-01 Custom Shop, but my dealer is being lazy. I ordered it like a month and a half ago and he keeps telling me "It is out of stock."

CZ SP-01 Tactical is a great gun :):D:p;)

What's the CZ 9mm factory recoil spring weight? If you run standard factory ammo like Winchester SaverPack, Remington and Blazer what's a good all around spring weight to use? Are Wolff springs the way to go?

CZ 75s use a 14 lb spring – the recommended replacement is Wolff 16 lb. I’ve had no issues in any of my 75s with the factory spring.

All advices are more than welcome.

Hi everybody,

I would like to ask something. I ordered a factory new CZ SP01 Shadow, which is my first pistol; I only owned one revolver before. Is it something that I have to have in consideration when cleaning it or before using it? The other I would like to ask is about what kind of ammo does this pistol like; a cheaper one for “every” day practice and a better one for other days.

Thank you in advance

for the OP, even if it's an older thread... if a round is in the chamber and the extractor slips off the rim... either the round is fitting relatively fat in the chamber due to a CZ's tighter tolerances, or the extractor spring is too weak. occasionally, it could also be the hook of the extractor itself that is allowing it to slip off of the rim during the cycling of the slide.

to kalle.... buy anything cheap. winchester white box ammo is usually 100 rounds for $20 or less at walmart. i have one guy who competes weekly or more and he uses this "WWB" as his match ammo. shoots reliably, and always makes the minimum power factor by a good margin.

I don't know if it is the ammo or the factory recoil spring on my sp-01, but it doesn't feed Cor Bon 125 gr +P JHP ammo correctly. When I tried to shoot this stuff at the range, I had MULTIPLE FTF's and FTE's with this short little round. Maybe I need to look at the golden saber JHP or Federal Hydrashok....... :(

we have 147grn golden sabers in ours, but they're the only ones i've tried. they were on sale way back when i was looking at defensive ammo, and they work and go bang every time in all our 9mm pistols... so i haven't bothered trying anything else at the moment.

Okay. My third time shooting my sp01 tactical, I am beginning to see problems. The first trip was flawless. My third trip, I'm having multiple FTF's and FTE's with all kinds of ammo. What strength recoil springs and extractors do you all recommend for all around use? So far I know the factory spring is #14. What is the recommended replacement for recoil spring? extractor?
