What do you have to do to make a folding stock on the newer CZ VZ58 rifles 922r compliant. Are they already compliant as imported? They do have the US made plastic trigger on them.

Bolt it on.

The 922r parts are:

1: trigger
2: disconnecter
3: sear
4: mag follower
5: mag floorplate

Just be careful using military mags (w/o the US parts in them)

You can also get a US made gas piston and pistol grip and not worry about mags or buttstocks.

Your saying I can bolt on the stock and the rifle is 922r compliant?

So ill be adding a US made handguard, pistol grip and stock.

Who makes the piston and other parts for the VZ58? The only place I can find is www.vz58.net

From the importer, the Vz58 is compliant w/o any furniture. It uses mag parts ( which I don't particularly care for ) for some of the 922r compliance.

Pistol grip: http://www.lichtenbergresearch.com/parts/vz58pistolgrip/vz58pistolgrip.html

Contact Hotbarrel over at http://www.gunco.net He makes gas pistons to order and probably has a few on the shelf for the Vz58

Does the pistol grip count as another US made part?
I suggest you familiarize yourself with 27CFR478 here:

[Code of Federal Regulations]
[Title 27, Volume 2]
[Revised as of April 1, 2003]
From the U.S. Government Printing Office via GPO Access
[CITE: 27CFR478]

[Page 101-169]

TITLE 27--ALCOHOL, TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND FIREARMS

CHAPTER II--BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS, AND EXPLOSIVES,
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

PART 478--COMMERCE IN FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION

on page 119....

[T.D. ATF-270, 53 FR 10494, Mar. 31, 1988]

Sec. 478.39 Assembly of semiautomatic rifles or shotguns.

(a) No person shall assemble a semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun
using more than 10 of the imported parts listed in paragraph (c) of this
section if the assembled firearm is prohibited from importation under
section 925(d)(3) as not being particularly suitable for or readily
adaptable to sporting purposes.
(b) The provisions of this section shall not apply to:
(1) The assembly of such rifle or shotgun for sale or distribution
by a licensed manufacturer to the United States or any department or
agency thereof or to any State or any department, agency, or political
subdivision thereof; or
(2) The assembly of such rifle or shotgun for the purposes of
testing or experimentation authorized by the Director under the
provisions of Sec. 478.151; or
(3) The repair of any rifle or shotgun which had been imported into
or assembled in the United States prior to November 30, 1990, or the
replacement of any part of such firearm.
(c) For purposes of this section, the term imported parts are:
(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearms, handguards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Magazine followers
(20) Magazine floorplates

What this means is that your rifle
!!CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN 10 IMPORTED PARTS ON THAT LIST!!

I recently received this email from Mike Eagleshield of CZ-USA:

"It looks like the 5 U.S. made parts are:
1.Magazine follower (polymer)
2.Magazine base (polymer)
3.Trigger (polymer)
4.Sear (steel)
5.Disconnector (steel).
You were correct in that the two magazine parts were in order to make it comply with 922R and be importable.
Also in order to comply with 922R it must contain no more than 10 imported parts and they are:
1.Receiver
2.Barrel
3.Barrel extension
4.Bolt
5.Bolt carrier
6.Gas piston
7.Buttstock (fixed or folding)
8.Pistol grip
9.Handguard (both peices considered one)
10.Magazine body"

Hmmm...What about the muzzle-attachment? Do they consider that extension an attachment (equal to a flash hider or muzzlebrake)?

What muzzle attachment?

The factory Vz58 enjoys the same 5 part status as an imported Kalashnikov with a welded muzzle nut.

How do you mesure overall rifle length on folding stock rifles? Is the mesurement done when open or folded. If its folded then how do the UZI's pass? They are 22-24" when the stock is folded?

I was told that in Texas it is mesured when the stock is extended.
