Pistoleros, I'm surprised that so many know very little of the Korean entries into this market. Both 9mm & the .40SW are remarkable pistols. I presently own three, and am looking for the elusive DH45, which I understand have not been imported into the country. I realize everyone will tout their Sig's, CZ's, Kahrs, etc; but if your local range has one for rent: try one out & see why they are the "best kept secret" in the U.S.:)

Daewoo? Didn't they already fail in the automotive market over here?

How's the fit and finish, accuracy, etc. with your pistols? I don't think that I've even seen any at any of the gun shows I've been to. I went over to gunbroker and they only have 2 DH-40's and they are asking around $350. No offense as the pistol looks nice, but I think I'd rather have a Ruger for that price.

No offense taken...I like all pistols that function well...The fit, finish and accuracy are comparable to a pair of S&W's that I have. To be honest, if it wasn't for the "fast-action" mode which I really like, it would be just another variation. What bothers me on many threads are when one equates price for performance; implying that a low-price means it's a POS.:banghead:

I believe that Daewoo cars, as sold by GM, were never made in Korea. They were made in some other country, and the former Daewoo Motors plants in Korea were used to manufacture some other, much higher quality line. Eventually, Daewoo Industries (seperate from Daewoo Motors) sued GM to make them stop using the name. I think the cars that were called Daewoo are now marketed under the Chevrolet name.

Got some stuff mixed up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Daewoo Anyway, though, GM Daewoo is seperate from Daewoo Industries.

I kick myself for not buying a DP 51 a few years ago when they were really cheap, around $200.:banghead: It's one of the guns I keep an eye out for when I'm out slobbering over gun shop counters.

My friend has a DH-40 and I am impressed with the workmanship and the unique trigger action. But we haven't found anything except 10-round magazines available. Have you seen any that hold more of those .40 caliber noisemakers?

Have an American company buy it, call it 'X-treme', and it'll sell.

Worked for that fine little underrated Croatian gun.

PS either way, the prettiest women in Korea all shoot HKs =)

Daewoo is a very, very, very large company. They're the Korean equivalent of a Tyco, which makes everything.

They make everything from memory chips to gigantic container ships and supertankers.

I likened them to Mitsubishi.

They are good guns and not to pricey.
They make side arms and rifles for ROK's. Those boys don't play around and they lpove thier stuff

I see them at shows sometimes. A local shop had a used 9mm for $250 for a while. I thought about getting it. Any pistol I find for 250 or under usually ends up coming home with me, but I was concerned about finding mags for it. Anyone sell mags and parts for these guns?

The only Daewoo I owned was the crappiest computer monitor I've ever seen.

They make guns now too?

I'm pretty open minded. I love Firestorms and Bersa and constantly defend them against gun snobs who say they're junk just because they have a good price. Hey the Bersas and Firestorms are good guns.

But Daewoo? That computer monitor was so crummy that the name Daewoo makes me want to vomit. I'm feeling ill.

I've heard of Daewoo making lots of different things, but this is the first time I've heard of them making something anyone called "good". The usual adjectives that describe Daewoo products are NOT complimentary.

OK. I'll take some Pepto to quell my initial nausea and try to get into an open minded frame of mind. I'm trying. Blahhhh. Burp. Still trying.

Maybe guns are their best product area. Hopefully better than their products I've tried in the electronics market. A name change would help prevent reactions like mine. That's as open minded as I can get until I shoot one.

That poster of the AK-toting bandito is a hoot! Striped shirt and wrinkled pants - what is that all about?

They also made a .22lr pistol that was a Walther PPK clone. A shop by where I work had one for $199, new. Someone had already put a deposit down on it, but the owner showed it to me. It looked good. I wish I knew how bought it, I'd like to know how it shoots.

Seems like I remember a few years back that Handguns magazine had some very good write ups about Daewoo pistols. Considered them to be good sound guns and not overly pricey.

As it stands now, no.

They aren't really that unique
They aren't affordable enough ($350 isn't that great)
As of right now you are pretty much guaranteed no support.

Look at the Daewoo rifles. They are phenomonal rifles. Where are they now?

I have the DP52 22LR fun shooter I bought it a few years ago when they were around nice tight grip in my hand just fun shooter at the range, looks like the PP disassembles by pulling the trigger guard down on it's pivot pin in the rear by the magazine release, once in a while it jams maybe ammo prob, I believe they made it in a 380 also.

The SA DX actually has something different to grab gun buyers. It is a small grip frame double stack auto. It fits people that Glocks don't. I don't know what the Daewoo offers that you can't find in another gun already on the market. It may be a fine gun but why would anyone buy one verses a SIG or a S&W or a Ruger or a CZ?

Do you see what I mean? Nothing against the gun, it just doesn't seem to grab anybody and make them want to buy it. There is nothing really new about it and most people just see it as another cheap copy of a gun they already know and trust. Also, what about parts and warrenty work? Does Daewoo stand behind their guns like Ruger or SIG would?

At $350, I could get a Ruger or almost a CZ-75. I am not going to throw my money at yet another odd ball pistol just because it is cheap. I have learned that a lot of these guns are not very good. The South African RAP-401 really bit me in the bum and it still stings.

Is it just me or does that guy with the AK look like Freddy Mercury of 'Queen'?

If it were me, I would rather take that Daewoo over a Ruger. No offense to Ruger Autos, they work fine, I just can't stand their looks. Will the Daewoo be a huge seller like the XD? Probably not, but the more affordable and reliable guns on the market the better IMHO.
