"How much ammo do you carry" got me wondering. Anyone out there able to carry a long-gun, SMG, or Shotgun daily on thier person or more likely in thier vehicle? Legally, of course.
What and How much ammo do you carry?

I was going to start a thread about this, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I am planning on purchasing one of those new Kel-Tec SU-16 rifles. I am going to keep it in my trunk with probably 5 30 round mags. I have a car gun but have always wanted a car rifle. I am tyring to find a good place to mount a rifle in the trunk of my taurus that will make it so it is still legaly in a case, but is easy to access. Anyone have any ideas since we are talking about car guns.

On occasion, Benelli Nova SP with ghost ring sights..... belt pouch with 25 rounds of buck and 10 rounds of slugs, plus four buckshot in a SideSaddle. Normally the .45 does the trick, but long guns, loaded are legal for car carry around here and on occasion it does come with me.

With a shotgun hunting for upland birds I have a shell vest that holds nearly a box of shells. Gets heavy after a long day in the woods.

For hunting with slugs I have a US GI shell pouch that holds 12 rounds. Easier to balance as it rides oppisite a .44 mag worn cross draw. Sometimes I only carry six, as the gun itself holds four.

I would think that if a police officer asked someone to produce their legally carried weapon, and they pulled out an Uzi or Mac or similar SMG, they would be considered quite insane. Although the look on the cops face would be priceless.:what:
BTW: Any suggestions on good CCW SMG's?

The magazines go under one shoulder, the smg goes under the other.

From www.remtek.com/arms:

Using HK's nylon carrying rig, the MP5K-PDW can be carried comfortably underneath either arm. Loaded spare magazines can be carried under the opposite arm. Simply thrusting the weapon away from the body automatically extends and locks the stock in place for immediate use. A convenient quick release allows the weapon to be rapidly removed or reattached to the carrying rig.

Sounds good to me.

Living in the Ozarks I have the almost required 12 gauge shotgun in my pickup. I have a single shot right now but I am gonna replace it with a pump 12 gauge or an SKS eventually.

I knew a narcotics cop in L.A who carried an SP89 in the MP5K shoulder rig with a 30-rounder loaded. I saw him practice with at the range once or twice, drawing it from under a coat or long shirt. Handy massive amount of firepower should a drug bust go wrong.

When I carry my Bushy on duty, I have two mags on the weapon and 5 more in the trunk.

I carry M1 Carbines in my vehicles in addition to a couple "car gun" pistols and whatever I'm carrying at the time.

I usually leave a box of ammo in the cars also.

My Ford Escort Wagon has limo window tinting so I leave a folding stock Carbine on the floor behind the front seat, where I can reach it from the driver's seat.

Since the tinting on my pickup isn't as dark, I have the Carbine mounted behind the seat.

Perhaps this is a MI state thing, but no federal reason a long gun can't be carried un-cased.

Even in the PRK, long guns can be transported in your vehicle in any mannar (ie, sitting on the front seat, in your lap, etc.) as long as they are not "loaded."

(In CA, "loaded" means "ammo touching the gun or anything on the gun in any way") so for example a shotgun side-pouch would be considered "loaded" but a pre-ban AR-15 mag sitting next to a Kel-Tec SU-16 would not be considered "loaded".)

Used to keep a SKS in my yellow DOT surplus F350, with three 10 round stripper clips, cause if 30 rounds of 7.62x39 can't kill it, ya better be running.
