I guess this is "legal" if not please move to whatever forum.

Please only those listed above, not how SMG works

Many of the local gun shops (we don't have many) are not doing outbound shipping anymore. To much trouble they claim.

Has anyone had a FFL refuse to accept a gun transfer from SMG when the person selling it includes a State drivers license in the shipment??

SMG is using the SMG (Buds) UPS shipping account.

Any FFL who uses Shipmygun to ship is a moron.

No matter what carrier or service, when shipping a firearm to a gun dealer its wise to call or email that dealer to see:
-if he accepts transfers at all.
-if he accepts transfers from nonlicensees.
-if he does accept transfers from nonlicensees, does he have additional requirements.
-does the receiving dealer have a preferred shipping address.

I'll bet you have plenty of home based dealers who would be happy to ship and it cost less than shipmygunfor$$$$$. Buried in the fine print of shipmygun is the fact you have to abide by UPS shipping policy. That means no pickup service, no drop off at The UPS Store, etc. It means you have to take your package to a UPS Customer Service Center (often called a hub or depot).

Further, Shipmygun pricing does not include insurance. If your gun is lost, stolen or damaged, too bad.
I ship guns several times per week for less than Shipmygun pricing and my shipments are always fully insured.

Any FFL who uses Shipmygun to ship is a moron.

I knew you would chime in with some snarky reply yet you did not answer my question

Do you as a FFL accept a transfer from SMG??

A FFL is not using SMG, the non licensee is, to ship to a FFL which is what my question is. You can add insurance to SMG

USPS flat rate used to be a no brainer. Now prices have gone up, add insurance and signature required and not such a great deal. Then add on the FFL transfer fee,
A flat rate medium box insured for $1K comes to $41 and change Plus the FFL fee whatever that is. So $30 so to ship it costs $70 or so.

I just did this exact thing via my FFL and it cost me $71, so not such a great deal anymore.

I can’t comment on your specific question other than to say that I have bought a gun from a seller who insisted on using SMG and it was a nightmare from start to finish. Got the gun eventually but it was a huge PITA. I won’t buy from anyone who insists on it now.

I wasn't being snarky in the least.
Shipmygun has this in their FAQ's:
5. As an FFL dealer, can I use Shipmygun.com to purchase labels for guns I sold on an auction web site that I need to ship to one of my customers?
Yes, most definitely. Many dealers and gunsmiths already use our label service to do this. Please follow the same process as a private party shipper. It's as simple as clicking on the "Start Label" at the top of the web site and you will be directed step by step on how to process your label/s. Please include a copy of your FFL with your shipment in lieu of the private party's driver's license.

Do you as a FFL accept a transfer from SMG??
Sure, I don't give a hoot who paid for the label and don't know why any other dealer would either. What I do care about is the identity of the person shipping the firearm.

How do you know the shipper is not an FFL? Clearly, Buds markets this service to anyone as noted on the FAQ answer above.

You can add insurance to SMG
No one said you couldn't. But the pricing given by Shipmygun does not include insurance.

You need a better FFL than one that charges you $30 transfers.
I charge actual postage/adult sig/insurance+ $10.........$51 total

$70 or so..........means that dealer doesn't really like shipping packages or doesn't really value your business.

Calling "any FFL that uses SMG a "moron" is worse than "snarky"
As a non FFL I was researching using it so therefore I am a moron.

USPS flat rate also doesn't include enough insurance
FFL down here are what I said. Come down here and you can straighten them all out on what to charge

Calling "any FFL that uses SMG a "moron" is worse than "snarky"
Not IMO, it's just poor, poor business. SMG is more expensive than having your own UPS/FedEx/USPS business account.
If you are in business, choosing a more expensive option for no reason isn't very bright.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself. I didn't call you a moron. In your haste to note how "snarky" my comments were you basically ignored the fact that they were not directed at you. I'll repeat what I wrote above: Any FFL who uses Shipmygun to ship is a moron.
It's obvious from your postings you aren't an FFL and don't have the same shipping and mailing abilities as those who are.

USPS flat rate also doesn't include enough insurance
Well. No. Kidding.

FFL down here are what I said.
Again, you know what every FFL in your state charges? I know several home based dealers in Florida that charge exactly what I do.
It may take a few emails or phone calls to find cheaper FFL fees.....but it ain't difficult.

Oh heck no! If you are satisfied knock yourself out. I LOVE gun dealers that charge ridiculous fees. They drive business my way.

You asked in your OP "Has anyone had a FFL refuse to accept a gun transfer from SMG when the person selling it includes a State drivers license in the shipment??"
I gave you some reasons WHY the receiving dealer might refuse such shipments, but what you fail to understand is THE TRANSFER DOES NOT COME FROM SHIPMYGUN!!!!
Shipmygun just provides a UPS shipping label to the transferor. Bud's/Shipmygun IS NOT the transferor as the gun is not "from" them.

My goodness you are one arrogant, rude person
Instead of name calling, how about explaining what it is you disagree with.
I've not been rude to you, not belittled your post or called you names.
I think you confuse arrogance as anyone who doesn't write what you think should be a response.

OP, you have requested information but don't seem able to graciously accept the information offered and move on. Your negative responses do not encourage others to help you.

The question: Has anyone had a FFL refuse to accept a gun transfer from SMG when the person selling it includes a State drivers license in the shipment??

If anyone can answer in the affirmative, please respond. If no further information is forthcoming, this thread will have run its course.

As a licensed importer I am shipping guns quite frequently to other FFLs that my customers provide. My rough estimate is that 10 to 20% of FFLs do not want to accept transfers from non-FFLs. That is really up to the individual dealer and I have asked some for their reasons, explanations given were mostly that bad experiences with missing paperwork and poor packaging were leading to their decision.

Dogtown Tom's advice to check with the receiving FFL if they accept shipments from non-FFLs and what their requirements are in that case, is good advice and the response of the OP is surprising me.

USPS has added a large package surcharge, anything above 30" is now subject to a $15 surcharge, $4 for packages over 24", or so.
