Dan Wesson revolvers

Anyone a DW nut? I hear talk about the (strongest) .44mag and in my opinion it's not all about that. If I want to pound something harder than a .44 then I use a rifle. A Smith&Wesson has a great trigger. A Ruger is another tank, a Colt is a Colt. They all have an attribute, but what about accuracy? This, once again in my opion, is where the DW shines. The .44 has interchangeable barrels of 2,4,6, and 10". You set the cylinder/barrel gap yourself. I set my at .002 for jackets and .004 for lead, so when I shoot my reloads they're isn't much difference in velocity. It gives me excellent accuracy. The trigger is smooth in double action and it breaks like glass in single. I just don't hear alot about Dan Wessons. They were made for sillouhette shooting, and have super strong frames.

You are right about the accuracy. Most accurate revolver I've ever shot.



I use mine for large bore silhouette.

Now you done opened a can of worms!! My trusty model 40 with the 6" barrel, I've also got the 8" and 10" and can hit the 200yd gong with any of them.

Typical Dan Wesson accuracy: 1.5" to 2" groups at 100 yards. Twice that size at half that distance is considered good for other brands. Don't take my word for it; go back and read the tests done by Grenell, Taffin, Spotti and such.

and nobody ever disrespected Colts (re: for great, get a Colt), they mostly just couldn't afford 'em

I have a DW 357. Awesome gun. but the trigger sucks in double action. imo, it might as well be a single action only gun.

A blued 15-2 4"VH
A SS 715 6"VH in near mint condition.
a blued 44 6"VH

I like S&W too, but I like DW guns better.

I hear ya about the accuracy....I've owned and shot many Dans over the years,I have one left that I won't sell. It is the most consistently accurate revolver I've ever shot.

The double action trigger pull is smoother than any Smith I've owned and the single action "forget about it!" The short action takes some getting used to but the faster lock time is worth it in spades when it comes to accuracy.

Being able to change barrel lengths and setting your own B/C gap is just icing on the cake. The cylinder lock up is bank vault tight and unique to Dan Wesson. Again,it takes some getting used to the location of the cylinder release,but it becomes second nature in a short time.

And Dan owners don't be telling people these fine revolvers are always less than a comparable Smith. Let's just keep that little secret to ourselves!

I have a Dan Wesson 357 15-2 manufactured circa 1980. It is a tack-driver even on double action. DW built good guns and this one is a shooter!

I own 2 15-2 DW One with only a 6" barrel one with a 6" and 8". Also a 44 with a 6" vented and unvented barrel and 8". Bought my first one around '76.

Change the 15-2 hammer spring to a lighter wolf and and the complaners should stop complaning about da trigger pull. Mine is 4 1/2lb da. Never falled to fire a round.
Only firearm with a wesson in its name in my house is a Dan Wesson

I'll have to give a lighter spring a try. I don't think it will make any difference though. I say that because it's not the trigger pull that sucks on the DW. Its the trigger rebound that is so pathetic. as long as you are shooting slow(as in single action) it's no big deal. But when you try to rip off 2 or 3 fast shots, that crummy trigger rebound is annoying.

Mine isn't as pretty as ya'all's but I like it a lot. It shoots & functions well. I found it in a pawnshop back in the late 90's for $100.

remo , If you want faster trigger pull then buy some sw maybe that will never shoot as accurately as the DW but it may be faster. I don't run around play'n fast shot with mine so I would not know about rebound problems. Never had a problem with mine in the 335 years I have had it.

A good friend of mine has a DW 44mag. We took it out last week and shot some handloads that I helped him work up on my equipment. It is an incredible gun. The trigger, I must say, was phenomenal on his gun. If they are all like that I understand why people love them so.

Shoots like it was a comp gun too. I only have the Six inch barrel but DW makes new ones now.

Sniper X check out the barrels made by EWK. he has a site at the dan Wesson forum and he makes slab side shroads and slow twist barrels for heavy bullets and his prices are all most 1/3rd what cz ask. along with a better front sights and some springs. If you ever deside to reblue ? The guy that use to do DW guns is at Blue Ridge Blueing.
