While I wouldn't call the 10/22 the "best" 22 ever made - I will call it the most commonly and easily modified 22 ever made. If you want your gun to be unique, then there is no other option. I'm also of the opinion that if you own one 22. the 10/22 should be it.
If you want a target ready gun OOB. Then there are probably other choices.
