Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of December! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance is back to our typical range of 25/50.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, .17 caliber chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both classes (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire one shot at each ornament as well as the star. Scored as one point for cracking each ornament (cutting the edge), two for shattering each (a shot lying completely inside); add an additional 2pts for tipping the star (cutting the edge), or 5pts for knocking it off the tree (shot lying completely within)...for a total possible score of 35pts.

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

If you enjoyed this match and want a bit more challenge, or just compare your rimfires to their big brothers, check out the concurrent Centerfire Match using the same target at double the range.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before the year 2012. :)

What is the difference in the two non-magnified divitions (sporting and unlimited/target)?
Welcome!

Sporting class is restricted to sporting configuration rimfires (heavy bbls, target sights, bipods/rests, .17cal. chamberings, et cetera aren't permitted), whereas the target class is open to all rifles regardless of configuration, chambering, or rest. The same is true for the classes in the magnified optics division.

:)

First, I'm sorry. I'm new to this. If I'm in the sporting class (10/22 Stock Rifle with Scope), I can't use a sandbag, right? So, I can be at a range, on a bench. I just have to hold the rifle steady with my hands, not support it any way.

Thanks!

First, there's no need to apologize. You got it; you can, however, choose to move up a class and use a rest/sandbags, or remain in the sporting class and use shooting sticks.

BTW, welcome to the match! Hope you enjoy it.

:)

Still looks like a tough target, but might be more doable at 25 or 50 yards, with a .22 so I can afford to practice a bunch!

Hi, Mav. What diameter is the red "Merry Christmas" ornament on the lower left? Thanks! P51D

Mine measures right at 1.7cm. or just a shade less than 11/16in.

In hindsight, I probably could have made the star a bit larger...unless someone has a .14cal. rimfire I don't think it'll fit. Lets just call any round that impacts the star inside of the 5 points a solid hit worth the promised 5pts.

:)

Thanks, Mav. I'll get my hardware/software to print it to that size. P51D

Per a request in the sister match, attached is a copy of the target saved as a Adobe .pdf document.

:)

Maverick223, Thanks for the pdf version of the target. I had trouble printing the png file. Now the tree covers more that half the page! :)

Glad to hear that it helped...i'll try to remember to create/convert all the future targets to .pdf to make it a bit easier.

:)

Here's mine and my son's submissons for the the Rimfire target class. We used his Savage MKII BTV, which we found out today it really likes CCI Green Tag ammo. :D

My son (Andy) scored a 14, and I scored a 20. He would have scored higher, but he was dealing with some rude folks next to him, and had two rounds left so he just let them both go at the top star (which I did not count). And I had a senior moment and totally missed shooting at one of the ornaments. :fire:

EDIT: My son's rifle is scoped, and we shot these at 25yds (our usual routine), so they are not eligable for the match.

CJ, hope your weather begins to improve. Weather hasn't been a big problem for me, but making time to get out and shoot sure has...too much travel in the past couple months. BTW, I got a good chuckle out of that last comment.

:)

Speaking of being a cheapskate, Aguila Match is great stuff for the money. It's done at least as good as cheap Eley Match for me, and is a good bit cheaper.

:)

I think we're going to extend this one to the end of Jan. to accommodate all the folks that haven't had enough time to get out...or would like to get out another time in hopes of bettering their score (which probably includes all of us).

:)

Good idea!

Had a chance to shoot a couple of these targets with my 54 this afternoon.
Almost nailed the star on this one, but not quite.
Looks like a 15 to me.
Shot from a bench (picnic table)
Wolf MT, 50 yds,15X
Happy New Year y'all.
