Del-Ton order

the F FSB is a valid concern but easily remedied by the taller pin (which delton also sells)

but its not anything to sway you away from Delton. many commercial AR's ( Bushy, Del-ton,olympic, stag, SW, DPMS etc) dont use the F base

I have one of the midlength Del-Ton kits on a Stag lower. I opted for the chrome-lined barrel and flat-top upper. It's been a great rifle and I'm very happy with it. If AR's are still available after the current buying frenzy I may order one of their lightweight kits.

Dispatch55126: VERY nice pic, thank you! Mines going to be a bit different configuration, but it's nice to see a "real" pic of what I'll be getting.
How have you liked it? Any ammo in particular I should stay away from?

So far, mine has ate everything from Prvi to Wolf though you can see a difference in accuracy. Break yours in with good brass then store it away and use the cheap stuff for the range.

I did have problems with FTE's when I first got it. I sent it back and they received it, tested it and sent it back the same day. It turned out to be the BCG. I never found out the specifics but it sounded like they had a bad batch come though.

Don't let that scare you off. The service was great and I've not had a problems since.

I don't know if they offer it, but I use the Magul MOE grip. It fills the hand beter than the stock A2 grip.

Do you mean the MIAD grip? Funny you should mention that one, I've actually been looking at itLOL I'll probably stick with the standard grip for awhile, but this one looks pretty kool. I like the option of using different grip inserts to change the feel of it (I have small hands). And the different core's for batteries, or spare rounds...

that's how I felt....

that and I couldn't afford an AimPoint or EOTech.

Personally, I use standard aluminum mags (from a secret source) with the orange or green followers. I'd like to get PMags, as everyone raves about them, but prefer to spend the money elsewhere.

If Delton has any left @ $15... get all you can...

Yup, that is honestly another reason I'm going with a standard Iron sight, the price. Somehow spending 300 to 500 or more on a holographic sight just doesnt apeal to me. I'd never want to mount it on the rifle, just sit and look at itLOL Maybe brush the dust off every once in awhile... Nahh...
I think I would eventually like a low powered red dot scope or something similiar, though. As long as it wasn't in the "arm and leg" price catagoryLOL

Ahh, I knew I was forgetting something. I HAD wondered about whether the standard A2 front site would match up correctly with a BUIS (without carry handle) on a flat top upper. See, this is why I post here, I would have completely overlooked it.
If I'm correct, this would be the one I'll need to make the detachable rear BUIS line up correctly, yes?

Kool! That's what I was hoping to hear! Thanks for the info. My order goes in tommorow afternoon. Just need to make a quick run to the bank tommorow morning to deposit a few paychecks and I'll be spending some money!

that is the pin. i added one to my order as well. hopefully they will start using them standard

so is the standard shorter or taller than an "F" marked base? What does "F" marked mean? I have the kit being delivered by the big brown truck today and want to assemble tonight.

also, its a midlength with the collapsible stock. I will post pics when I get it.

Edit: also, when I talked to them, they told me they were backed up 3-4 weeks on everything. I ordered on 27 Oct. and am just getting it delivered today (it was shipped on the 6th, but I went with the cheap shipping....doh!)

only thing else to say is to try and use magpul followers in your mags. I have feeding burps with my del-ton when using Wolf, and I'm more inclined to blame the green-follower mags over anything.

I picked up a chrome-lined flat top middy kit from them a couple of months back. Before finalizing the order, I asked if I needed to get a taller post to have a standard BUIS work OK, to which they replied "it shouldn't be necessary".

I mounted an MATECH BIUS on mine & if any adjustment to the front sight was necessary during the battle zero setting, it was to lower the front pin just a bit to raise the impact point (of course, YMMV ...)

I ended up mounting a millet redot (which I really like) on some leupold hi-mount see-thru rings on top of a YHM 1/2 inch riser (didn't like the exact co-witness I got without the riser ...)

& +1 on the PMag recommendation (both the 20's & the 30's)

The standard FSB is meant for A1 and A2 uppers only, and is 0.040" shorter than an F-marked FSB. The "F" stands for "flat top." Why they chose to make the sights 0.040" taller instead of making a shorter carry handle like the commercial ones, I don't know. It does make it slightly easier to get optics to cowitness, though.

Main problem with the taller front sight instead of the correct block is that the sight becomes closer to the height of the sight protecting "ears" on either side. It's possible, maybe not likely, but possible, to accidentally use one of the "ears" instead of the front sight itself, if lighting isn't that great. Especially if the're all the same height. You'd think the ears being curved would be noticable...

I know this from a friend of mine. Of course. :p

Oh, yeah, good luck with your kit! It'll probably be the highest concentration of detents you've ever seen in one place. :p

My midlength kit will be arriving on Monday.

I just got the stock kit with an upgrade to the Phantom 5C2 over the A2 flash hider, more for the jab-and-twist aspect than for improved flash hiding (though I'm sure it'll do that too). It's a nice little Plan B.

Didn't bother with a chrome barrel, chrome bolt or feed ramps. Plenty of people (including Bart Roberts and others whose opinions on ARs I greatly respect) have mentioned that a chromed barrel and feed ramps don't seem to make much, if any, difference, and as for the chromed bolt - at $55 for the upgrade, I'd be halfway to the $120ish that an MPI, "known good" LMT BCG costs.

RP88: I'll remmeber that. I've a Magpul mag (Another when my order gets here, heh) and one of those same "green follower" aluminium mags. Yup, I actually went out and bought mags and ammo BEFORE I bought the rifle LOL It's great motivation. After having handled the two, the Magpul mags just seem for "solid". So much so I went on faith and had another thrown into my order with Del TonLOL
Oh and if anyone's interested, I just checked Cheaper Than Dirt and their little price jump on Mag Pul's has gone down from 29.97 to 21.97. Still not at their price of a few weeks ago of 17.97, but getting there.

Nick, NICE scope! Thats the style I like over the holographic type. Of course, thats all just aesthetic's as I've never actually USED either... But, looks wise, I like yoursLOL What brand is it?

M

man, I just cant wait for that darn truck to get here.

Kermit, I know the feeling! If it makes you feel any better, your's should be arriving today, but mnes still quite a ways offLOL Just try and savor the anticipation.
(Yeah, thats what I keep telling myself, too...)

Max...

make sure you let us know what they give you for a lead time....

Oops, Sorry I should have checked here before ordering, I could have called and asked what their current wait time is for you guys. I ordered through their website. One of my biggest flaws is I can be almost obscenely patientLOL I've waited almost a year to place my order since I first realized it was possible to build an Ar from a kit, so what's a few weeks to a month or so...?
And as I said in another post, the anticipation is half the funLOL
Nope, I didn't shake my presents under the Christmas tree, either.

M

well, here she is, put together and waiting for the range...properly california neutered

Kermit, congratulations! Looks really good and I hope it works as well as it looks! What lower is that? It looks like the finish matches up well with the rest from Del Ton. Let us know how she works at the range??

M

I have been eyeing a midlength kit. To all you guys that own one what do they weigh and how is their balance. I was just curious. I am going to be buying a kit from them in a month or two and am trying to decide between a midlength or a lightweight. I use to own a bushmaster a2 and it was heavy. I am wanting something a little easier to carry.

Ran 200 rounds through it today. BSZ'd it at 25 and was keeping good enough groups for iron sights. then switched to shooting the gong at 300m. Even with the crosswind (5-10 gusting to 14 at times), I rang the 300m gong 8 of 10 times (1st shot to see where I was shooting, hit 3, miss one more time because I jerked the trigger, then hit the last 5). Had a bunch of fail to feeds, but I think it was related to the cheap mags I have (pro mags with the green followers).

Overall, it was great, and is accurate as I am. I am already planning another one.

Nice looking rig...congratulations!

I ordered two PMAGS from Del-Ton on the 6th. My order page says "This order has already shipped or has reached the final stages of processing" but I have no notice from them that my order has shipped so I'm assuming my mags are back ordered. I tried calling on Thursday, but couldn't get through. Sent an email and received an automated response that they'd respond within the next two weeks! I couldn't believe it. I'm not in a great hurry but it sure would be nice to know the TRUE status of my order. Makes me think twice about doing business with them in the future. :(
